    This afternoon at the public chargers in Beverly Hills all 4 EV spaces were occupied but only the Winter Gray PIP, the third car along, was actually using the chargers. I should point out that the BP PIP in the second spot is not mine. The Tesla is parked here all day every day and rarely uses the charger. There are big signs saying that if you are not connected for charging purposes then you will be ticketed and/or towed and if your car is full you have a one hour grace period to exit the space. AFAIK these rules are never enforced by Beverly Hills Traffic Officers.

    Does your state/municipality have laws against ICE vehicles parking in "Electric Vehicle Parking Only" designated spots?
    NY doesn't, so in a situation like you photographed- it's perfectly legal for the ICE to park there any time- and for as long as- they want :mad:

    We can only hope and suggest that the next gen charging stations are placed in the rear (of course at additional expense) or less desirable areas of parking lots rather than up front where every lazy/entitled yahoo likes to park.

    Wrapping the charging cable around the rear view mirror and locking the charge port connector on the Leaf works well. Or double parking behind them with a J1772 extension cable...

    Hey Rob,
    Not sure about the laws in Nevada, however this station is on private property but open to the public. It is just ridiculous that people park wherever they want, this includes handicap spots.

    Just thought about how inconsiderate some people can be.


    How is the Volt working out for you? We are seeing more and more here. They look pretty good. I think I just need to get one of each of the EV's. Lol.

    Private property... guess it's like your own driveway then- they can do whatever they want. It's a shame some people are just so selfish/inconsiderate. It's the me..me culture we live in.

    The Volt's working out great for me... just hit 10,000 mi this week and have used 16.5 gal of gas for the life of the vehicle.
    My daily commute is 28mi to work with a free ChargePoint station there, then 22mi (shorter but slower route) back home where I have the L2 240v JuiceBox. During the summer I get about 50mi EV range, now with colder weather (40's F at night) I'm seeing about 44mi EV range. In any case- my work commute in both directions should be 100% covered by electric only.
    Last time the ICE ran was back in June when we took a 470mi round trip to Rhode Isl- even then I got 43mpg w/four ppl in the car.

    Kudos to Vinsetta Garage restaurant (Woodward Ave in Berkley, Michigan) for offering electric charging stations.

    Unfortunately they now have an antique tow truck (with their name on its door) parked in front of them.

    Here's one that bugs me, at least once each season;
    The local dealers near the city mall .... they really bug me .... often parking their brand new demo vehicles at the public mall - just so they can suck up free juice ... which leaves NO chance for anyone else between the hours of 10pm and 3pm typically. They're there quite regularly. This is kind of a half way home from work location for me ... and I've chosen not to shop there any more because the mall policy is 1st come 1st served - regardless of how egregious to other plug-in's.

    This is the kind of activity that quickley comes to an end, once shopping / public charging becomes payola. 50c per kWh always cures it right away.

    That's an interesting question. Unless there are California dealer plates or a temporary registration, it is illegal for these to be driven on public roadways.

    Hill, that might be the answer: call the police department of the city that mall is located in and let them deal with the dealers.

    I'm afraid $.50/kWh public charging will be the end of the electric vehicle. That is, if gasoline is less than $5.00/gal. Today at the Disneyland Resort, I asked where the chargers were for the first time. There are 20 chargers there. They charge a MINIMUM of $1.50. That means they are economically unviable for the PiP. I saw one Fiat, one Tesla, a few Leafs, a few PiP's and a boatload of Volts. All 20 spaces were in use, and about 15 or so were actively charging. There were no spots ICEd.

    We finally got one charger at work (because the CFO bought a Leaf), and the CFO is willing to share it. But, my facilities guy says they are looking (with the other area colleges) at installing a bunch of chargers that besides charging with electrons discharges the user's wallet. I wish they would invest in a solar canopy system that would in large part cover the electric costs of vehicle charging. (Of course, there's the $20K or so capital cost to put a 4-charger system like that in.)

    Er - that could be problematic. I used to work for the public defender in south OC. Wouldn't be very cool to potentially drop a dime on a former customer.

    Actually, the karma thing keeps me from going down that road ... as there are occasions that some of my driving is not spotless ... from rolling thru stops, crossing the HOV inappropriately, etc ... most of us know know how that drill goes. Anyway - I believe these cars had the temp / paperwork taped inside the windshield.

    I hear that. They're always looking to improve their EVSE situation. The thing is, it couldn't be too cool to expect a phev to move their car once filled. That'd be a long hike for Disney customers back to the parking lot. $1.50 for a day at a charge stall would mean Chargepoint would really be taking it in the shorts .... putting up an EVSE that only gets $1.50 per day. The current price point works to prevent that, and makes it more likely that Chargepoint can recoup their investment - primarily serving plugin's with 'bigger tanks'. For a vendor to work on property, they pay dearly to work on Disney property (I've put in 30 years there).

    Employees pay $1 minimum in their lots .... with 28¢ being currently charged per kWh. Even at that price - it's usually all stalls full;

    Yes, it is a hike back to the Mickey and Friends structure, but my primary complaint is charging by time rather than charging by kWh drawn. (These Disneyland ones apparently only charge money while actively sending juice to the vehicle.)

    On another note, I was at Irvine Spectrum (a large, outside mall and entertainment center) today and noticed signs directing to the EV charging stations. Great, I thought. When I get there, it's $1.00 hour (if plugged in, regardless of charging). I note with some pleasure that of the six or so chargers, ZERO were in use.

    We as a nation need to decide: is the public policy to reduce petroleum based vehicle fuels enough to get these malls and amusement parks (which get tons of revenue while the hapless charging customer pays merchant and the charging station) to create at least rational pricing structures that incentivise EVs? Sadly, it seems that boat has left the dock, and pricing at or above the equivalent gasoline price will be the norm. No thanks on that.

    I wonder how much revenue an organization can make if they can enforce no parking on charging station unless your charging.
    If revenue can be significant enough, I'm sure organizations might take actions.
    Or just charge ridiculous amount for 2nd offense and on (not first as people might not know the rules/policy)

    tonite, there was a prius lift back parked in the ev space at whole foods. now thats really a low blow.:unsure:
