    I mentioned doing this a few months ago (in this thread, I believe)! These are like the orange stickers the highway patrol puts on your car's window warning it will be towed in XX hours (here in California, at least)? What's the store? If anyone was going to do this, I would strongly recommend only ever putting them at the lower back of the driver's door window. Anywhere else they could hamper visibility and you could end up causing a wreck and maybe getting in serious trouble. You could say it's their problem to remove the sticker before driving, but they might not have the ability to, or just might not, and, unlike law enforcement, you wouldn't be authorized to place the stickers.

    I do support this idea, though.

    Or even just ticket them for the revenue.

    Yep. Also a note on the windshield that says "If you park here again, I'll key the side of your car." That ought to change their behavior.

    What can be done about this guy who keeps cheating the carpool lane with a fake green sticker?

    My state (Washington) has a hotline specifically for reporting HOV / HOT / Ferry lane cheaters: 1-877-764-HERO.
    HERO Program | WSDOT

    Does California have anything similar?

    Looking online, I suspect the answer to my question is (1) No, and (2) they don't care, enforcement simply isn't a priority. OTOH, just a few weeks ago my state performed yet another pre-announced and well publicized emphasis week on this issue: New HOV stickers | PriusChat

    file a criminal report. you don't have to be a police office to do it. you have plenty of proof.

    I see why I missed this page:

    (1) My state's HOV cheater hotline goes to the statewide DoT, not to a local air quality board such as "South Coast Air Quality Management District", so I never even thought to look for the later :rolleyes:;

    (2) Even after looking at this page, I still see no mention of HOV reporting or anything else that would suggest I look there.

    "Toll free (800) numbers are restricted to local calls only."

    yes - the cut smog phone number is to drop the dime on Gross polluters that are obviously out of compliance. When it comes to sticker fraud, that is not environmental. That's a crime here, that you'd have to report to the (in our area) CHP or police. They can follow up after they finish their donut run, as they have access to owner's addresses. Is it practical? Well - at any given time, one out of 30 drivers is driving under the influence. So going after a sticker violator is kind of like straining out the Flies, while you try to eat a dead elephant.

    So if I purchase a prime... does that mean I get to use the HOV lane when I visit my friend in Tn?

    presuming you have stickers in the state you are domiciled? Reciprocity. States respect the stickers of other states, but if there are no HOV rule exceptions in a state you visit, you are expected to abide by the visitor State rules. 'conflict of law' is an entire class in law schools.
