Often there are squatters at these free Volta stations, but this time ICE has found a way to choke up the spot.

Note, there were many open parking spots around this area, and it was not a prime spot, but this guy chose to park here and this way.

I spoke with him on his way back to his car. At first he said another charging spot behind the camera was open when he got there - I told him that was not correct as I watched the whole thing before he got there (he quickly took the spot from a Volt charging there). He then said he had only been there 2 minutes - also not true and I called him out on that. Then he said "no worries". Of course I had to snarkily reply "no worries for you".

Just park behind him and plug in! Leave a note stating you'll only be 2 minutes!

I was tempted but had my kids with me, did some quick shopping and really planned on only charging for about 10-15 minutes. But did not want kids to see any non G rated stuff:eek:.

One solution might be the same as I've seen suggested for those norty folk who park in "disabled" spots even thought they don't have a "disabled" plate. Here's how it works: I carry a handful of long zip-ties in the car, and there are usually a plentiful supply of empty shopping carts laying around, and, would you believe (how convenient) the height of the shopping cart handle or top is pretty close to the door handle on most cars, and cluster of carts suitably grouped and zipped together and to the car can take a while to extricate from, especially if you don't happen to carry a spare pair of diagonal-pliers. ;)

Haha, indeed. What might be fair or just can have unintended consequences. Also if law enforcement were to get involved, police reports, possibly appearing before a judge...

The quest for the cure for douchebag continues.

    Play stupid games.
    Win stupid prizes.

I would think that in a land where a $35 parking ticket will net the violator about $150 after the fees and costs that just calling the police would be enough to satisfy people's anger.

I remember back in those haclyon days when hybrids were fresh and new and their owners were entitled to privileged parking.
So, now it is the BEVs turn to.....ah.....'shine.'
It's going to be interesting to turn the page and see what happens when everybody gets rid of their wireless cars and plug in cars are being driven by the norms.

    Yeah.
I get the whole plug-in thing.
People who own parking lots and who invest in charging stations have the right to regulate who gets to use the space but I'm thinking that when I get a BEV or a PHEV I'm going to make it a policy to try not to b one of the EVangelists and try to treat public charging stations as a convenience. ;)

My son just started college while still attending High School. I passed down to him my 13 Plug In Prius. I was delighted to learn that the college just installed 2 chargers! Great, right? First day both spaces ICED.

A J1772 extension cord comes in handy. Park behind them, use the extension to plug-in.

Campus police was notified and said they would enforce the EV spot. Sadly the same thing happened again this week. Small campus so really there is no security or parking enforcement available. We had a this problem at CLT airport. People would park in EV spots (even EVs) and were not plugged in. Finally they changed the signage to read: ONLY EV's ACTIVELY CHARGING--others will be ticketed/towed. Finally got much better compliance.

You would think campus security would have them towed.

I found a shop that makes virtually and nearly impossible to remove stickers that say whatever you want them to say. After you fill them out you know where to put them. Right in front of windshield line of sight. It helps remind them. Buuaaahahaha
