37 MPG for the HV miles? force charging maybe?

or maybe using the PiP as a genset with an inverter?

My daily commute to work is all EV. Coming home (elevation gain of 600ft), the ICE starts about 1.5-2 miles from home. However, that last 2 miles is probably 200-300 ft of elevation gain with 2 traffic lights and 2 Stop signs (and the 2 miles or so before I run out of EV is 50-55MPH - 50MPH posted speed limit). So the warm-up + the uphill MPGs are killing my HV MPG.

A few days ago, I was about 5 miles from home and out of EV range. When I got home, the trip MPG showed 35. So going uphill and at decent speed makes a huge difference.

This last tank was almost exclusively pure commuting to and from work. The other tanks before all included some random 50-100 mile round-trips.

    New year resolution time...
With next fill-up, which is about two or three weeks out, as I'm parking it for a week given some year-end business travel, and taking advantage of work-from-home days the following week, I will update the MPG spreadsheet, back to the first fill-up.

I started pulling together data this weekend and realized that backing into some of the data needed to wait, as I did not reset EV/HV trip A at the last fill up, but can get to it with the next tank. So, I put a bit more time into cleaning and polishing this weekend, and less analysis.

On a related topic, I looked at Fuelly today, thinking about the MPG limits and presenting MPGe instead of the, in my opinion, misleading MPGs that it calculates by default. I also read John's chat with the moderator about properly recording gas/electric hybrid fuel data. John, I don't think we are going to see this as a formal option anytime soon We are going to have to lead by example on this one! Hmm, I'm thinking about how to indicate MPGe on Fuelly and my Prius Chat signature. Suggestions always welcome.

    Happy Hypermiling (and Holidays) everyone!

I think your right about not expecting Fuelly to accomodate MPGe. I have a feeling that the fuelly crew have lost their programming talent and simply don't have the skills to modify their site. Not an unusual situation these days.

Meanwhile, it's not too much effort to enter the kWh as gallons.

I put my data in the spreadsheet for the first time. Please let me know if I did this correctly. Thanks.

Looks like you did it ok.
If you want, just copy your data to the "Enter Data Here" tab and I'll move it over to the MPG tab.

    Thanks.

I put my 1st fill-up data in the spreadsheet. This is the first time I have used Goolge Docs...... I placed my data on a line in the "Enter Data Here" tab. Please let me know if I did this correctly. Thanks.

    34Hupp,
Thanks for the data and Welcome to PriusChat.
And since your Username is a Number, you're at the Top of the List. Sorry Bisco !!!

    Where in Rochester are you?
Where did you buy the PIP?
What is your typical daily commute?
Can you charge the PIP at work?

    Enjoy the drive.

I'm in Fairport, the East Side of Rochester and purchased from Hoselton. My daily work commute is 19.4 miles roundtrip, all backroads, 45mph and below. So I need some gas for the trip, but have been averaging about 110mpg on the roundtrip, even in the 20 and 30 degree weather. Unfortunately, I have not found a way to charge at work, but will work on getting approval. I traded in my 2006 Prius (also purchased from Hoselton) with 98,747 miles, that averaged 52.3mpg lifetime. I like the PiP, but really miss a lot of design and features of that GenII.

Entered today's fill up, as well as the previous two; 12/26, 12/04 and 11/08. Please advise if I did this correctly and if any of the data doesn't make sense, as I had to back into a couple numbers. I put post it note and a pen in the console to remind me what to record. Getting old is rough!

I also attached a pdf of the worksheet that I keep to update the Prius Chat file as well as the Fuelly log. It tracks my actual cost per mile, which to me is the common denominator. At least for me, as I'm a bean counter!

Will update Fuelly now, which should then update my signature with MPGe, as I will load the converted gas and electric consumption to Fuelly, back to the first fill up.

    Cheers!

I noticed your fuelly entries are combined gas and electric. I made seperate entries, one for gas and another for the electric (converted to gasoline).

John, I looked up your stats on Fuelly and see how you did it. Interesting. However, I'm at wits end with Fuelly, in particular about getting my notes to show up, so a bit too preoccupied to separate the gas and electric. When I get a clear head, I will think on this.

By the way, can you see the notes I'm posting on the vehicle and the fill ups/charges? It would be the Rosetta Stone to decoding the PIP's efficiency stats. Short of breaking out gas fill ups and electric charges.

ukr2, would you mind deleting the fist entry, the incomplete one, from 11/08? Thank you!

yep, I can see the notes. I am on a campaign to get fuelly to support MPGe.

John, thanks for the sanity check. Glad to know the data can be viewed.

I read your latest on adding kWh consumption to Fuelly logs. You have the patience of Job!

I had a good chuckle at the comment on Fuelly, that you must be supporting the Prius Plug In.

Thanks for representing all hybrid electric vehicles on Fuelly and contributing so much to Prius Chat. Well done!
