by slow and careful driving on flat roads, i have managed to bring battery charge down 5-6 miles while in hv. i t doesn't like that and eventually, the ice kicks on and recharges 3-4 miles of ev, sometimes while sitting at a light.

The battery will be a "buffer" while the ICE is warming up. If the car isn't moving, the excess energy will go into the battery. The opposite is true if you accelerate hard (during ICE warm-up), the battery power will be used to minimize emission from ICE. The computer will soon recharge it and return to the target SOC.

My 2004 Prius could be force charged by pressing hard on the brake and pressing hard on the accelerator at the same time. Can the same be done on the Plugin?

As I understand it, a software update removed that behavior on all Prius models. Due to the "stuck throttle" issue, the control software was modified to disable the throttle if the brake pedal is pressed hard.

IIRC, force charging was putting the Prius in park and pressing the accelerator and did not involve the brake pedal.

  10. I drove right thru my garage door like that, now I involve my brake pedal.
