Well the orange "O" ring in my OEM blue charge handle became partially dislodged again on Friday- so I removed it from the charge handle permanently. Now the handle clicks in and locks properly without forcing it into the car's charge port connector.

It's interesting that some of us have the ring and some don't. I'm one who doesn't, bought PiP late December. o_O

i wonder if they've eliminated it in production, but it depends on what stock your evse comes out of.

Well I saved the "O" ring in case I do need it for something, but I don't imagine ever installing it in the charge handle again.... seems more trouble than it's worth.

And the NSA has already forwarded your deviant behavior to Toyota Collective. Rob, now risk having your PiP confiscated at your next service. ;)

My 2014 doesn't have it, so I assume it was only on early models.

Nothing clicks for me. The public chargers don't click and my blue OEM L2 upgraded charger doesn't click either. I also have a second L1 charger purchased off of ebay and it rarely clicks as well. The clicking noise happened only on the first year of ownership in 2012.

Only a one year warranty on the clicks?

Removing the O-ring in the handle FIXED my problem of pushing the charge cable into the PIP.
It was twisted and kept the handle from seating into the PIP.
    Looks like it's not needed.

Just wondering, isn't this issue of the plug not fitting into the car a warranty issue that the dealer would fix for free (assuming we are talking about the OEM plug)?

someone in another thread did get a new one under warranty. seems a bit silly though, to go thru the hassle when removing the ring solves the problem.

Unless they give you a new one and you get to keep the old one. ;)

    I

Both my friend and I have a 2013 and the charger it came with has an orange o-ring. I re positioned it and it seems to be better, but think it will keep moving around. Would be nice to know if it is essential.

Wonder if we could find out from Toyota if its essential. I called 2 different dealers service dept. One told me to take it out, another didn't really know. He said no part avail so could order a new charger for $300. Yeah right. Anyone try to contact toyota manufacturing to find out if its essential?
