Phones that positively work well with the Prius

Anyone have an LG-VX9800? Service from Verizon.

I just got a Razr V3m from Verizon and am trying to pair it with my 2006. Where in the V3m do I enter the 1111 passcode the Pruis is giving me? Do I need to change the device name in the phone to match the "hands free" name that the Prius displays?

Megan uses an LG-VX8300, service from Verizon. Connects fine, but I don't believe the auto-download of the phonebook is enabled. Haven't really spent a lot of time futzing with either so I could be wrong on this.

See, I get the impression that my 05 Prius has an earlier software/firmware version that doesn't let it fully talk to the W600i.

The phone hooks up via Bluetooth to other devices just fine, but not so wonderfully to the Prius. And unfortunately, unlike with a computer or other device, I don't know of any way to download and/or install a firmware update for the Prius. I know I can do it for the phone, but perhaps the problem isn't the phone, perhaps it's the car.

Oh well. It usually works. And I saved my Moto V505 to transfer new numbers into the Prius. That operation, clumsy as it is, works properly.

I have a Sony Ericsson Z600 with Cingular service and it works pretty well.

I just bought my Prius last week (I've had the phone for years), and when I tried pairing up the Prius and the Z600, they did so with no trouble. After some time of playing with it, though, the connection between phone and car was dropped. I don't know why. I played around with it and couldn't get them to talk. So I started thinking it wasn't going to work. But then the next day when I got in the car, I was surprised to find that the car and phone automatically found each other. And they've done so every time since.

So, basically success, with the slight worry that since I don't know why they wouldn't communicate that one time, I can't be sure it won't happen again.

The phone isn't and wasn't sold by Cingular, BTW. I bought an unlocked phone and separately an AT&T SIM card, and when AT&T Wireless was bought by Cingular, it transferred over.

I've been placing the receiving calls through the Prius without any obvious problem except the occasional dropped call in areas of poor coverage. The calls are dropped between the phone and cell towers, so it's not a Prius issue unless the Bluetooth or other Prius electromagnetic radiation is interfering in a different frequency band. I think I'm getting a somewhat higher rate of dropped calls, though it hasn't been long enough to really know. It's possible that since I leave my phone in my pocket now, it's down lower in the car and less likely to get a good signal than it was when I held it up to my ear.

I'm considering installing a cell signal booster in my Prius, to improve my service area. The one I'm looking at is the Cascade In Vehicle Dual Band Wireless Amplifier. I haven't figured out where I want to put the external antenna for that yet, though.

I haven't yet figured out how to get my phone to send my contact list over to the Prius.

I needed to buy a Bluetooth upgraded phone, so I went to the following website: toyota.letstalk.com and it asks what year and model of vehicle you have and then with or without navigation. You can enter the brand of phone you want to check on, for example, Motorola, and then the carrier, for example, AT&T. It will show you all the phones that the Prius (at this time) bluetooth will work with. I know lots of people on this sight have different phones and they work, but if you check this list and see the phone you want, click on it and it shows the different areas that it pairs with the Prius and what it doesn't.

I purchased a Motorazr V3xx because it was on the approved list of phones from Toyota. After some problems initially, I paired it with my Prius today. I found that if you go to telephone screen on the MFD and hit bluetooth, it will show a code: 1111 (somebody already mentioned that on this post). You need to have your cell phone on. This is how I got to the right screen on my phone: I went to the settings on the screen, down to the connection choice, then hit bluetooth link, scroll down to add audio device. As you hit the button, the phone trys to find the device...if the Prius bluetooth is on the screen I mentioned above, the phone will recognize the device (Prius bluetooth). Then it asks for the code: enter 1111 and the MFD will tell you it was successfully activated. Then your phone will be entered in the bluetooth.

I also found that on the telephone screen on the bluetooth in the car, there is a choice for phone book. I manually entered in the name, first phone number (home), next phone number (cell) and it showed a third phone number you could list. When I entered the name from my cell phone address book, it only entered in one number. So maybe entering the number in manually addresses some of the issues people have had on this post as to how to get more than one number.

In addition to the Phone book choice in the telephone screen on the Prius bluetooth, there is also a choice of speed dialing. (I think you need to have the phone number in your phone book...at least that's the way I did it). It's pretty easy to access the name you want and then assign it to the first speed dialing number.

I called one of the entries in my phone book and I heard fine and they heard me fine too.

Since I just did it today, I don't know if I will have future problems with disconnects, etc., but since the phone was listed on the approved list, I don't foresee any problems. Will let you know.

 

Hoosier:
You will be happy with V3xx linking with Prius.
I have had it for half a year. Motorola does very good job with Bluetooth.
I had a SE W600i before that, and the Bluetooth connection was pretty weak.

 

The iPhone works better than my Treo 650. Easier to pair, better sound, no "lost" connections and all icons on the MFD are displayed (including battery level).

 

Motorola Q with Verizon service works Great !! Pairs immediately, phone book transfers, all works well. Verizon finally catching up with the rest of the world.......

 

LG trax (cu575) works great!

paired up quickly and easily.... and hooks up every time i get in the car!

I have a Sony Ericsson Z520a that works well. Sound seems good. Can transfer the whole phone book at once. It also has a feature to switch to a particular "profile" when the bluetooth connects. So for example, I can have it turn off the vibrating ring and turn up the ring volume (so I can hear the customized ring tones) when bluetooth connects.

BTW, one thing about the Prius phone thing to notice: It wants the "1" in front of the number in the phone book in order to match an incoming caller ID to a number in the phone book. It would be nice for the Prius to ignore the 1, but I suppose that is US-specific.

 

Anybody has experience using the Blackberry Pearl with the Prius?

I am thinking of either the Blackberry Pearl from AT&T or the Blackberry Pearl from T-Mobile

I searched the Priuschat forums, but couldn't find any mention of these Blackberries, and am curious...

Nokia 6133 through TMobile works with no problems.

I read your post yesterday and went to the letstalk website as well. For Sprint, the most compatible (and least expensive) phone was the Samsung M300. I picked it up and didn't even have to read the directions to get it all set up. It was pretty much automatic. I wasn't even interested in the bluetooth when I bought the car but now I think I'll use it all the time.

 

T-Mobile Wing works fine. Battery and signal status display, rings through bluetooth, audio quality is fine.
I can turn the hands free on and off on the fly to continue a call while getting into or out of the car.
However, contacts won't transfer. I think that is the same with all Windows mobile phones using Outlook.

I also have the Treo - 680, and got for Christmas (2006), using Cingular, (now AT&T) the Treo firmware version I have is “R01.31â€.
The Bluetooth connection, is also working for me every time.
There are none/zero Treo phones by Palm listed on Toyota website (www.toyota.letstalk.com) as supported, so my dealer was no help, but thanks to the place I brought my phone (Cingular store) this list (love this list), I have transferred my phone directory (over 900, by category). The hand free is a wonderful option to have.

It took me about 20 minutes to get my Treo 755p to work, and copy addresses in my new '07 Prius.

Most of the time was me not realizing there was a second page of options in the phone menu.

I'm still working out how to get a name recognition dial from the steering wheel.

Howdy. Has anyone looked at how well the Palm Centro pairs with their Prius? If so,

1. What year Prius do you have and
2. What features from toyota.letstalk.com worked and didn't.
