I doubt it, I can't see myself being against things that have absolutely no effect on me such as abortion, gay marriage, using christian values to fool me into war. I'm not of a white background, and don't believe in wasteful consumption. Of course, this the 'stereotypical Republican' we're talking about, i'm sure at some point in my life I'll inherit some right-wing values...hopefully not too many.

Come on. Be nice. Whatever it takes to get away from the darkside is good enough for me.

That's why they bought their SUVs, too. Whatever. That they're driving a Prius to be cool also means that they're conserving gasoline whether they like it or not. Next step will be to teach them how to drive to get the best mileage possible, although that might be asking a bit much.

I just have to reply this really fast since this thing can go south by arguing which one got the bigger dick, republican or democrat. I mentioned about my friend who said it's a propaganda from liberal democrat is because he was just using to justified his belief. He is not a republican nor demo. I think he is just little confused with his newly found wealth and he just want to try to fit in to his new society, which is the top of the food chain which he things they are.

If you try to convinced other hybrid hater to go get the hybrid car to save gas money, it will never happened. They will just give you a different excuse. Like I will rather skip my lunch to drive my V8 SUV.

They really need to re-educated without any political agenda. Need to show them a fact and try to apply it to their reality. I think it will take long time but I really think something need to be done.

I just hope if our currently government wake up and do something again it sooner. Perhaps, they should help our US car makers to make more hybrid cars or even better bring back the electric car from GM. Put heavy tax on the car which only have 15 or less MPG. Plus our they have to convince big company to start a working home program. Company that I work for started this program last year, I stay home once a week. I save so much money, it's like instand raise.

I think you are painting Republicans with too broad of a brush. With the same brush, one could paint the stereotypical Democrat as being a gay, pot-smoking, atheist. There are multiple facets to the Republican party, particularly along fiscal and social lines, just as there are multiple facets to the Democrats.

I'm a Republican, I'm an atheist, and I'm neutral on abortion and gay marriage. But I wouldn't consider myself on the fringe of the Republican party. Rather, I'm just more rooted in the fiscal side than the social side.

I bought a Prius, and kept my SUV. That probably really pisses you off. Sorry.

I didn't buy an SUV to piss you off, and I didn't buy a Prius to make you feel better.

I do use my SUV for camping and off roading and its not worth much on a trade anyway, so I'm keeping it.

My Prius isn't up to the task of hauling my trailer up to the campground or a cubic yard of redwood bark for landscaping.

You should feel better that I'm driving the SUV a lot less now, so you won't have to see it as much.

I'm considering purchasing a Prius and keeping my SUV. I have a wife, 2 kids and we tow a ATV trailer on a regular basis. My reasons for considering a Prius are purely economical. It would be a replacement for my company vehicle, our corporate allowance and reimbursments would allow me to put money in my pocket whenever I'm behind the wheel.

Yes your doctor friend definitely needs to open his eyes about the environment issue. I sold my Porsche 911 for a few good reasons to buy a Prius. I was young (27) and stupid when I bought it. But I snapped out of that phase after watching Al Gore's doc. Honestly, the thought of 'what others would think' never crossed my mind. I really felt guilty driving the Porsche when burning 18 MPG and now I have more than doubled the fuel efficiency in my Prius. So what's in it for me? Not the image. Saving money on gas is on the back burner, but it's mostly saving the environment not just for me and my wife but our future generation who will inhabit in this green environment one day. So tell your doctor friend....all the spending on material things won't matter if the earth cannot sustain in global warming.

Well I guess that puts me down one notch then, I traded in my Jeep Wrangler for my Prius. I did it because I wanted to do some small part for the environment, and I love the money I save on gas.

We kept my wife's Jeep Liberty however, so that really must put me in a bad light. However, driving around Boston snow drifts with my wife and 2 kids in the back, plus all their gear, it's a requirement. Yeah, we could have gotten an Outback, but it's pretty much the same damn thing.

For what it's worth, Canada recently instituted a similar tax credit/excise tax policy for fuel efficient and inefficient vehicles, respectively.

    Canada Budget 2007 Excise Tax

Buying a vehicle that registers worse than 16L/100km (~14.7MPG!) will cost you an extra $4K. Nice! B)

Similarly, buying a car that registers better than 6.5L/100km (combined) pockets you $2K, on top of any provincial tax credits (up to $2K, depending on province).

We did the same traded a 13 mpg jeep grand cherokee 4x4 for the prius and we kept the 6 -8 mpg motorhome, because no matter how you slice it the jeep could not carry the toilet and the kitchen sink and still work properly as the motorhome can. :)

and Yes we love the money we save while driving the prius and we like cutting down on the C02 . The motorhome is driven twice a year and now not far from home it used to be a coast to coast traveler but not anymore.
like I said in a different post If it was a HYBRID MH or even plug in MH would be great.

Oh, I love this game. Everybody knows you can tell alot about a person by the car they drive. My neighbour just got a tricked-out Mercedes with an AMG badge on it. He always seemed like such a nice guy, but he's obvioulsy a pimp or a drug dealer or something. Now I know where he gets the money for all those 'holidays'. And that bodacious babe down the street with the pink Hummer, well, she's obviously deranged and I just stay away from her. The neighbours on the other side have one car each, if can you imagine - that's just decadent. His van must get terrible mileage, which makes him the worst of the two, even if she does drive 3 times as far to get to work. Then there's this guy in the hood with one of them electric cars. I mean is he stupid or what - he'll never make his money back. He hardly ever drives the thing, and when he does leave the house, he's always got a backpack or a bicycle. I've seen him out in the yard, pickin' stuff off his plants and eating it. In broad daylight! He's gotta be a radical subversive...

Stereotypes wouldn't be stereotypes if they weren't true. Do you honestly believe a Cadillac Escalade, or Hummer, or huge GMC...whatever they're called (I don't really pay attention to American cars) is going to be out in woods scratching up their 24" rims? Honestly, are these people really going to use these cars for what they're ideally intended for? Come around my town, and you'll see what i'm talking about.

Stereotypes wouldn't be stereotypes if they weren't sometimes true.

But if you assume that they are true without any other proof, then you are prejudiced. Or a bigot.

Well then I guess I'd really tick you off. We traded in our mid-size car for our Prius and kept the SUV.

You know what I mean. Obviously there's always an exception to the rule. Obviously most people don't fit into their stereotype, but a large percentage of whatever we're stereotyping do. That's what I meant. By my definition, stereotypes are true.

Regarding the TWO S.U.V.'s we traded in, for our two hybrids (Prius and RX-400h): I wish we could have afforded to pretend they were GM EV1's . . . . and CRUSH them ~ rather than sell them :D

So there's a stereotype that SUV owners are out on the weekends driving in environmentally fragile areas, mowing down flora and fauna. And there's a stereotype that SUV owners buy 4wd vehicles just to drive their kids to the soccer fields and never drive off paved roads. Which one is true? :D
