It is explicitly illegal in New Jersey, Colorado, and Maryland.

No more ‘rolling coal’ on Maryland roads - The Washington Post

Colorado Ready To Explicitly Ban Rolling Coal After An Incredibly Stupid Debate

The modification to roll coal is federally illegal (in terms of tampering with emissions controls), though you'll probably have a tough time getting anyone prosecuted for it.

And even at a $100 or $500 fine, that’s not going to stop much of this.

Repeated fines will. Run a dashcam. Call the cops. Snitch on those douches every damn time.

People seem more aggressive towards me in the Prius, specifically guys in jacked up trucks. I have a fair statistical sample because I also drive a Tacoma and do not get the same hostility. However, I drive them differently, at different times for different reasons.

But, if my car Coexisting (yes, I went there) makes them angry they need to stay out of my school zone if they don't want to read "namaste" in my window while I do the speed limit!

I live in a pretty small midwest town, specifically right near downtown, by the PD and a college campus. My drive to work is 100% at or below 30 mph. I'm not speeding to make an underage jock with a lot of HP bully me.
Parking lots, well, I think we either have to be strategic or park as isolated as possible. Easy where I live, not so much in Cali, I guess.

I won’t be buying a dashcam just for this remotely likely occurrence.

I think...I was getting coaled today? I couldn't tell for sure since it so so subtle but consistent spewing onto my car.

    w/e in EV it wasn't a problem.

I started giving it serious thought after a Prius passed me on the shoulder of a highway, and clipped my front fender when pulling back onto the road.

I bought dashcams for multiple other reasons, including the occasional severe driver hostility to bicyclists on organized events that I support.

In my region, clueless drivers hypnotized or anesthisized by little handheld screen doodads are vastly more prevalent than Prius Rage. I want recorded evidence to show to the responding officers or my next of kin.

Why don't care just come standard with dash cams? And shoulder we be able to use are lda camera as a dash cam...

Anyways I decided to invest in a dash cause it's just a one time purchase that can save you from insurance fraud hell.
