    I just got my oil changed and asked the oil change place to check it.. they had no idea where it was, and argued that Prius' didn't even have one to start with to check..

    Did this yesterday, so much easier! Took 1.5 hours and that's only because I decided to look at some other things too. Fuel injectors, sprayed all applicable connectors and reseated, sprayed MAF sensor and air throat and butterfly assy. Because the whole wire bundle is attached ( connected ) at some remote point the bundle never really becomes as loose as I would have liked, but
    there was sufficient room to get at the PCV VALVE:focus: Much easier procedure than removing: windshield wipers,cowling,motor assay. drip pan etc. Seilerts I Thank you again! :cheer2:

    wow that looks like a pain..Im going to put mine on ramps and see if I can reach it from the bottom..I doubt it can be done or someone would have suggested it already but its worth a look.

    If you are referring to the PCV valve, it is located on the end of the engine valve cover and there is no way you can reach that part from the bottom of the car.

    Last year, as part of the 100k mile service, I asked the local dealer to change the sparking-plugs, and imagine my surprise :eek: when I received a call from them saying, "…oh, by the way, you might want to change the PCV valve, and since we're working in that part of the motor, we'll change it for you for just the cost of the part (<$12)" (IOW no labour charge! :)) - yet another reason to foster a good relationship with your dealer! ;)

    After reading through this entire thread ... I checked my PCV value on my 15 year old Gen 2 Prius (190,000 km/120,000 miles). I don't think this has ever been done.

    You can do this as follows;

    1. Remove two bolts holding the relay box to the firewall
    2. Remove PCV hose by hand
    3. Unscrew PCV valve with 19 mm ring spanner. I used a plain spanner but it would be quicker with a ratchet spanner.

    Now my valve was not seized and it did rattle although it had a fair bit of deposit. I'm assuming it still worked but definitely needed a clean. I used Carburetor cleaner to fill the valve and then I shook whilst keeping both ends sealed in my fingers. I repeated this 5 times or so ... until the Carb cleaner coming out was clear. I could see no damage to the actual valve once cleaned. If you asked for this job in the shop they would always replace instead of cleaning.

    There is no reference for this in the service schedule but now I know what to do ... its a 15 minute job.
