I'm sure that the pipeline is still intact. Just a delay on sales. It seems that the fix will be the installation of a few clips. No big deal at the dealerships once they get the "go-ahead".

I am in the same situation. I believe it is a federal law. If there is a safety recall the new car cannot be sold until fixed. Does not apply, technically, to used cars.

So you (anyone) do not believe it will take long? Meaning, they will not need to design, manufacture, ship, etc the clips? My guy told me "might be mid November..."

When I checked with MrT the European cars are not affected. Not sure exactly why that should be though.

The car can only roll away when the car is left in drive with the parking brake ON. You'll be fine if you put the car in PARK! I can see how this would be dangerous for someone clueless, but I think most of us turn off the car or at least put it in park before exiting.

I was at the dealer this weekend for oil change and no new information on the recalls. We have to wait. I ask about the Prime not even one in the showroom.

no, not until november i think? might depend on your location. there again, if it has the same parking brake, they might be stuck in port.

They are doing nothing with the 17's until a fix is put in... they are going to just sit there on the lots along w/ the leftover 2016s.

The stop sale order for the parking brake issue is on 2016's and 2017's (92,000 cars).

I'm going to get some work done on my current car so I can wait out the stop sale order.

Has anyone received a letter or email from Toyota on this?

If this is deemed serious enough that they cannot sell cars with such a defect, it strikes me as odd that Toyota wouldn't be compelled let us know directly.

Not sure if I understand exactly how the defect could get you in trouble-- I would like to understand this better.

Are they saying that if you stop the car and press the park button before getting out to move crap in your driveway out of the way, the car could lurch forward and crush you between the front bumper and garage door, as you flail around cursing Prius Chat for encouraging your purchase?

If so, that would be a good thing to know until such time as they are able to fix this.

    Ok, forget my last post.

Sounds like the parking break could fail if you use it while still in drive or reverse or neutral.

How in the world could one end up doing that?

The way the law is written, this will be rather expensive for Toyota. I assume they will fix this very quickly.

    • an obligation either to repurchase vehicles subject to defect recalls or to provide a remedy for dealers to implement immediately. Regardless, manufacturers must also compensate dealers with an additional 1% of the price they paid for such vehicles, per month, prorated from the receipt of the “stop sales” notice until the vehicle is repurchased or the remedy is implemented. 49 USC 30116(a) and (b); and • compensation for parts and labor associated with the remedy. 49 USC 30116(b) and 30120(f).

    .

Yup. And this is why manufacturers often resist recalls by all means available.

I guess that maybe be new, rule. I seen this in my industry. Government, no tolerance, no common sense and one rule fits all situations approach to an issue. We are god and make any rule we see fit. I think in many cases it's an abuse of power. It will get the offender's attention real quick. Prevents them from dragging there feet. The fix will be there very quickly.

Setting it, then forgetting you're in drive.

And, really, it's that the parking brake could fail, and that if you're in drive, reverse, or neutral, bad things could happen.

I think it's been in effect since 2002.
