    hmmm,
Im starting to think some of the persons on this thread are very knowledgeable in this field and should maybe get together and compare thier notes. Maybe even meet up to check out their findings.

Or they could take one of those GAY cruises together, (not like that, on a kinda research mission )
they could study the lifestyle, the interaction, what really makes them tick, the cars they drive, maybe even sit down and interveiw them, do a full briefing & get the deepest inside scoop that noone else has revealed..... ;)
we will understand that somethings will have to stay one the cruise (like vegas, what happens in vegas stays in vegas).

Then come back and tell us about it, that way we straights could better understand.. :)

Then there's my hairstylist who is a no-nonsense straight married man with 3 kids. He has bleached highlights in his hair, macho mustache, and has a more personal and trendy style of dressing himself than any gay person I know. Life is so confusing if you choose to make it so. Personally, I see this guy to get a decent haircut and not to romance him, so there is no reason to question his sexuality or cross an imaginary boundry.

No thanks, I'm not interested in joining the Navy right now. :)

Oh, that reminds me, I left Navy SEAL Instructor (civilian) off my list yesterday!

    Ruth and Naomi
Ruth 1:16-17 and 2:10-11 describe their close friendship Perhaps the best known passage from this book is Ruth 1:16-17 which is often read out during opposite-sex and same-sex marriage and union ceremonies:

"Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me." (NIV)

Ruth 1:14, referring to the relationship between Ruth and Naomi, mentions that "Ruth clave onto her." (KJV) The Hebrew word translated here as "clave" is identical to that used in the description of a heterosexual marriage in Genesis 2:24: " Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." (KJV)

Why do you turn a mother and daughters love for each other into something Queer.
or a mother-inlaw and daughter-inlaw into something sick.
Ruth and Boaz did get Married and become the grandparents of David.

Yea, thats pretty funny.... like that makes the bible underwrite thier union of something.... one verse out of context.

Why must they kid themselves... do they really really ...... really, think the bible underwrites it?...... Why not just say its what they want to do....... why try to make God a liar and act like his book underwrites it?...

Self deception is the most wicked form of deception, because those who cleave to it, do it because it feeds them and makes them feel better..... like an addictive drug......Even many folks in churches abide by self deception and won't let it go.

If you want to get married and your gay, at least be honest and admit its your own thing... not Gods....
    He doesn't want the credit.

Obedience is better than sacrifice..... so many times we human beings want God to accept us on our terms and we are even willing to "sacrific" something "on our terms of course" to get it... when simple obedience is really the ultimate sacrific as that entailes the thing we are unwilling to do.... Thats what impresses God... not doing your own thing, blaming it on him, and then getting mad at God when your life all falls apart as if he was supposed to underwrite and bless the union or something?

When your on your own, your on your own... we all have the right to choose our own way.... and we all will reap what we sow. When it all hits the fan, you can go cry to God for mercy and most likely find it, but don't go "blaming" God that things aren't rosey and don't be amazed that your life and "union"are not blessed.

Gay people are not gay at all.. they are very sad and miserable people inside based on what I've witnessed.

(1 Sam 15:22 KJV) And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

(1 Sam 15:23 KJV) For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Some witnessing you've done so far... I invited you over to see who we are and you completely ignored it. You'd rather just sit behind your monitor and opine about how "miserable" gay people are.

It strikes me as odd, regardless of one's religious persuasion, why you think constantly quoting Christian biblical scripture has any bearing on this discussion of real American families and what is part of the curriculum of our secular public schools.

I have absolutely no problem if a particular church or private religious school wants to preach that their religion does not allow gay people. That's just fine, nobody is trying to take that away from you. There are plenty of gay-positive churches out there. What I object to is using the Bible to justify having the Government deny equal rights.

Go believe whatever you want to believe. Leave the government out of it. If the very existence of gay people offends your religious sensibilities, that's your problem, not the school's or the government's.

Last time I checked, gay people were not out campaigning and voting to have Heterosexual marriages nullified, we were not rallying to have custody rights of Heterosexual partners denied, we were not demanding to have hospital visitation and insurance rights become non-existent for Heterosexuals. We were not insisting that government agencies be able to fire people just for being Heterosexual.

And yet, year after year, so-called "Christians" propose law after law, initiative after initiative, to deny gay people such rights. I guess that's what you feel you need to do to spread love to those you view as "miserable".

Get your own house in order before throwing stones.

    - Bob R.

And by the way, "windstrings", since you are such a paragon of virtue, what's up with your avatar?

You have chosen a character from a dark-comedy horror flick (directed by Mel brooks who was a good friend to many gay people). In that movie, a mad scientist brings back the dead (I thought that was purely God's domain), the living monster rapes a woman and she loves it, and wives are essentially swapped.

What part of this movie represents the Christian ideal? Weren't you just quoting some scripture about witchcraft?

    Hypocrite.

I think bobr1 needs some stress relief....

There was someone who was saying the other kids used to call him a faggot, hell I was called one once I asked them why they where calling me a bundle of sticks? lol never called me that again. I did ask him how he enjoyed being the pivot man in his circle of friends though  ... his 4 buddies kicked my butt after they found out what I said, but it was worth it.. ;)

Being gay is not something your born with its a choice....

I really think some of you should really take that cruise and relieve some stress ;)

I think Bob is acting above and beyond the call of duty in the ugly face of discriminatory abuse. He's being articulate, intelligent, and appropriate, which is more than I can say for the rest of us, me included.

This is sooooooo American. Let's get all hot and bothered about red-hot symbols like gay people, prayer in the schools(we'll ignore the guns in schools because that's 2nd Amendment stuff), flag burning, etc., and ignore real moral issues like the meaningless Iraq war, trillion dollar deficits, government corruption, the Enron debacle, the lack of health care, the gutting of pensions of millions of us, the usurping of the Constitution by Republican neo-cons, on and on.......

Remember Terry Shiavo and how the Prez and Congress got all hot and bothered so they could score points with the electorate by "looking moral", while actively working against real health care? (can't cut into corporate HMO profits, can we?) It would seem that to merit government interest in your well being, you need to be either a fetus or someone terminally vegetative on life support. If you're black in New Orleans, forget it.

I have a real problem with people whose moral compass involves no cost to themselves but who seek to
impose their rigid value system on others. "I'm OK but You're Not....."

    Priusguy04 -

When did you choose to be heterosexual? Do you wake up every morning and say, "I think I will be physically and romantically attracted to women today?" Is that a difficult decision?

If being gay is really a "choice", you should be able to wake up tomorrow and will yourself to stop being attracted to women and start being attracted to men, right?

Yeah, a "choice", sure... keep telling yourself that.

While I'm not a Christian (I belong to a Unitarian church and I would define myself as a secular humanist), I have read the words of Jesus Christ. As far as I know, he never said anything about gay people. He did have a lot to say about giving aid to the poor, and he seemed to be more concerned about the oppressed and disadvantaged members of society than the wealthy and powerful. I don't see much in common between Christ and the so-called "Christians" who are so worked up about gay marriage and stem cell research, but are doing nothing to relieve poverty and social injustice.

this has turned into exactly what i suspected it would: childishness and the throwing around of bibilcal quotes to justify something being "wrong"

funny enough, this microcosm reflects the general atmosphere of america as well.

Here here, Bob's discussions have been direct, factual even handed and non-accusatorial. Far more than I can say for many here who's sole claim to knowing what their talking about is some bible thumping and "I heards".

I am jumping in very late to this topic, but here goes. I have a 7year old son in the first grade, if his teacher was reading him the book in question I would be appalled and I assure you on the phone to the supperintendent of schools. It is wrong on two fronts, first of all my son does not need to be "exposed" to any "lifestyle" books in the first grade. Secondly I don't think it is appropriate to expose first graders to 'alternative lifestyle" concepts at such an early age. I know some of you will be offended at me thinking two men being married is "alternative", but isn't changing thinking the reason for the book being inserted in the first place? I doubt the book is being read to the first-grade class based on its literary merits.

Ghostofjk's comment was pretty tame, really, in comparison to what else has been said. And, he was only cheering bobr1's comment that windbag's avatar seems inconsistent with his persona. So, back off Jack. ;)

BTW, I thought you *liked* all this mud slinging. Isn't that why you post all these hot topics? :)

Given the bigotry out there, why would anyone ever choose to be gay?
