Overall, how close does the v get to EPA?

2000 miles on my 2013 v and getting 43mpg on the dash on trips. 41-42 local trips. Everything still stock but I will get new tires/wheels next winter. I do coast in neutral on long hills when I can. I discovered hitting "Park" while in drive will put it into neutral...easier than moving the lever.

 

Our vagon has about 12k miles since purchase in December 2012. Lion's share of miles are highway at 5000 - 7000 ft.
The fuel meter is about 5-6% optimistic, just like the Lexus CTh and the 'liftback' Prius.
Our experience is that the car does a pretty poor job of matching EPA. I average low 50s MPG, and my wife about 46 MPG. The lifetime fuel meter currently sits at 47.8

 

How does your v do a "pretty poor job of matching EPA" if your average is 47.8? This is well above the EPA.

 

Inaccuracy has two sides, and I am not complaining. I apologize if my somewhat off-beat humor is not coming through the ether.

Btw, the vagon appreciates warmer weather. The drive to work this afternoon on suburban roads at speeds of 40 - 60 mph was in the 50sF, and I managed 68.5 MPG on the fuel meter. Overall decline of about 6 ft/mile. If I correct for the elevation and optimistic fuel meter the trip comes out to about 62 MPG.

 

I thought perhaps you may have intended the comment to be sarcastic. Just wasn't sure if I was missing something.

 

My v has driven on the flatlands of Alberta for most of its life. Took delivery the last week in august so 80% of the 32000km on the car has been winter driving. winter has been especially harsh, temperatures averaging -15c all winter with a few colder snaps and the odd Warmer day.
I mostly drive the speed limit on my highway commutes sometimes a little over, between 60-80 mph. No grill blocking, maybe 4 psi extra in the tires to compensate for extreme temperature changes, auto climate control set with ac on all the time. 90% of the time I drive alone.
My actual average, correcting for indicated error on the dash display is around 40mpg.
Hoping a full summer driving will improve that average but pretty happy with it so far.
