I replaced it this afternoon. $231.71 + tax. OEM from Toyota. I was right, it was only 75% charged and filled up to show 14.2 miles. More recently it has maxed out at 9.8. I drove 11.5 very cautious miles now before the ICE came on. 40°, snow tires, max 45 mph. I want to believe it went a bit further than what it has the past month or two, but that is probably not the case.
You’re talking about your plug-in Prius hybrid battery displayed charge, and range estimate? Not sure that correlates to the 12 volt battery replacement. If you didn’t use a memory saver during the replacement the displays will revert to defaults if I’m not mistaken; that could be what you’re experiencing.
Mendel Leisk, exactly. I had read on some other threads where at least one person was claiming to get more actual miles after dis- and re-connecting his 12v battery and so does that occasionally. That would be nice, but I don't think it is the case.
The stock battery is an Absorbent Glass Mat style, not readily fillable, and I don’t think necessary either.
IF......it has the original battery, you are likely due for a replacement. 7 years is a good run but it won't last forever. Especially if not used much.
Un-checkable and unfillable except maybe with a syringe through the vent. Maybe. I cut open a dead AGM battery from a UPS one time. No lead plates and no liquid acid (or any other liquid) came out of it.
That is a misleading statement. AGM is just a special variety of a lead-acid battery. There IS lead and acid in there. Has to be to work.
You could swap an 85AH battery in... Replacing an OEM 12v battery with an 85AH battery is a success! - black_jmyntrn
