There are three buttons which can be programmed for multiple doors, gates, lights in a house, etc.

I am interested in getting the homelink ontop of the base package, it is the only thing I would miss from my 2005 Prius package 6, purchased from Diane in 2005 after a one year wait to get the car. Hope I am quick enough in the ordering process that I don't have to wait that long this time.

time to hurry up and wait

Well, assuming the order window opens in early November, which is a personal guess and not reflective of ANYTHING other than a gut feeling and my spidey sense, it's at least a 4.5 to a 5 month wait. It could be easily 6-9 months wait for most. I planned personally on a 7 month wait, so I adopted/assumed a 2011 Prius lease from friends and I'll just drive this IV sunroof car till my PHEV's ready and then sell the 2011.

I plan to wave bye-bye to my still fabulous 2007 with 156K miles on it this weekend.

One word of advice? Don't sell your current cars too early!

Excellent advice on when to sell your current Prius, Dianne. And to me, that is one of the great features of the online ordering system. We will be able to track our cars through the manufacturing and shipping process, and should have a pretty good idea of the delivery to the selling dealer. I plan to put mine on market about a month ahead of expected delivery, but I have a couple of other cars I can drive if my '06 sells quickly.

    That must be nice!

My current car (my wife drives our good car, the 2005 Prius) is a 'bucket of bolts' (totally worthless), and it may not make it until my PiP comes in. (Heck, it may not even make it until the on-line ordering system goes live!)

I wonder what the most economical option would be to get a car to use for only 6- 7 months. I guess I'll have to wait until my car does break down, and find out much it would cost to fix it. I'll be praying it keeps going...

(But what an awesome upgrade it would be to the PHV!)

Well I'm mostly "retired" although I still do a little contract work now and then. My wife likes to have our '02 Lexus available to her, even though she has probably driven it less than a hundred miles in the last year. The Lexus is our road trip car (we are currently at our daughter's house in Ohio). But I also have my "toy," a '91 Miata which I can use if need be. Most of our driving is for local trips of less than 10 miles total, which is one reason why the plug in appeals to us.

    I know, Cath. Me too.

But, it's going to a great home, and I'll get to see it every now and then! It was time. I've been jonesin' for a new car to bridge the gap in time between the end of the yellow carpool lane stickers' demise and the new PHEVs and the green carpool stickers. I just had to settle for color... and it solved a problem for someone!

Grr. I cannot seem to get this image display thing right.

    Hi All
I put $500 down, for my new Plug-in Prius here in CT Colonial Toyota. Another local dealer wanted the whole car price before ordering one! But there is no final MSRP price for all option LOL. Also the Web process is not clear. How can you fix a price on your trade in car, for a new car which might be delivered in 4 month (Mid Feb quoted, so speak April?). The Colonial deal works so: Deposit $500. When the car is here, you can test drive it, and decide to buy it at MSRP, or get your deposit back. At the same time they will make an offer for my current 2010 Prius IV, which I can take or leave. I think this is a very fair deal.

    Thanks Urs

If we pre-order, are we required to buy the car? Do we have to put down a non-refundable deposit, or is there any cancellation fee if we change our mind?

That's a very loaded question and there are many possible scenarios. One legal aspect of dealing with a CA dealer is that we cannot keep deposits unless we sell you a car. Thus a deposit as being part of a commitment in CA is pretty worthless. That's why I just don't take them. If I am forced to take a deposit to get a client's car built or ordered, then I will.

In regards to your own car, let's say a PHEV, no one can force you to buy it. It will, in theory, go to the next buyer in the queue who ordered IT or something like it..

Dianne, I wasn't trying to ask a loaded question, I just want to know what commitment I have to make. It's possible that I'll order it and then learn my trade-in isn't high enough or maybe California won't give out the carpool stickers after all, or I may cancel for some other reason. Besides, I don't want to be in a position with the dealer that leaves me no leverage.

I also worry that for some reason my financing falls through when I go to actually purchase the car, because a LOT can happen in 5 months.
