Only 15,000 Gen 5 Priuses and 10,000 Gen 5 Prius Primes so far?

    What they failed to do was say at the beginning of that phrase;
    ".... since we got caught with our pants down with insufficient batteries we only now realize that ......"
    so -
    In essence - it's the same mediocre kind of CYA statement as the mediocre effort to prepare for the future.

    Eh, I can only think of one automaker in the US market that has a ready supply of all the batteries they need, and that's mostly because it is a technically a battery company with a side line in building cars.

    And I think Toyota would rather go out of business than ship cars with as many design controversies, straight-up build quality issues and parts/repair/customer service problems as bad as that one.

    Since they seem to not even have the battery supply to meet their hybrid demand, those other EV makers must really be hurting.

    If Toyota is truly concerned about reducing the most amount of carbon emitted per limited supply of battery, they'd be selling mild hybrid diesels. Can get 3 to 5 of those per Prius.

    I think they like selling what they're already tooled for.

    Boring answer, I know, but they like boring.

    But how many hybrid buyers settled for the ICE model cause the hybrid was unavailable? At the midyear point, Rav4 hybrid sales were down 30k compared to last year. The model overall was down 23k.

    Toyota was unwilling to invest in future plug in growth, and the others willing to might be putting a squeeze on the supply of batteries for hybrids Toyota took for granted.

    The kids next door keep us broke - buying Lacross lottery tickets to win a Winchester rifle. You can never have too many tools that run 5.56 NATO .... but we already have 3 vehicles between two people. C'est la vie

    Wow. They’re your local dealership? I have called them a few times to ask questions. Ha! Figured they would know because they are the top selling dealership. Both times they said I hope you don’t want a Prius/Prime because we stopped taking deposits. That was a while ago. : }

    When I went into my dealership today to get a price match on a headlight bulb installment and to ask about the Front Cross Traffic Alert the service manager said I do too much listening to people on line. Uneducated customers are the best customers. I told him I want to be sure the car I’m buying does what I’m thinking it will do.

    I get that the FCTA alerts you when a car is crossing your path which would be great and it’s ridiculous that all 2023/2024 cars don’t have this. Safety 3.0 will still alert and start breaking for pedestrians without the need for FCTA. This is only at 0-25 mph though right? I think I can manage with this. No doubt 2025 will have all of this.

    The lane assist would be a nice luxury too but as long as my Prius beeps at me if I start falling asleep that’s all I need.

    Yes, Longo Toyota is in LA County.

    Yucks on that service manager. They are too busy getting $$$ commissions on every repair. They make a ton of money.

    FCTA is useful when you are trying to make a left turn with an SUV across the street blocking your view or a parked car blocking your view at a T intersection. LCA is useful in freeway driving for safer lane changes.

    You can get an SE instead. It is not much more expensive than an XLE and the same price as an XLE AWD.

    There is an updated schedule. But if your car was built in late 22 or very early 23 it should be due. If your address has changed, you don’t read all of your mail before throwing it out or you have not setup the Toyota app you may have missed the notification.

    Mail notifications may come a month after the app notifies. The dealer is not going to call you but they will order the fob and make an appointment for you after you notify them.

    I just talked to my dealer.
    • There are 3,000 2024 Priuses allocated to US dealers to be delivered in November. (That averages to about 2.5 per US dealer per month.)
    • There are currently only 27 2023 Prius Primes allocated to US dealers.
    • There is currently only one 2024 Prius Prime allocated to US dealers, and its production date is October 23, 2023. It is an XSE. So, October 23, 2023 is the start date of production for the 2024 Prius Prime US models. That puts the arrival of the 2024 Prius Prime in the US in late December, and there will be a drought of Prius Primes in the US until then.

    Thanks for the update. I noticed the drought of both Prius and Primes when I searched local dealers yesterday. My dealership has a blue Prime XSE Premium on the lot for about a week now. Maybe the new owner is on vacation. Next allocation is next week. If they’re able to get one for me, maybe I’ll have it by December. It’s hard to believe how slow production still is. Another reason for me to stick with a Prius. I don’t think I want to wait much longer.

    The drought is being caused by the model-year switch from 2023 to 2024, which temporarily reduces or halts or the production.

    Prius drought will end in a month in November, and Prius Prime drought will end in a little over two months in late December.

    Tonight, I saw a red 2021 Prius Prime in a parking lot under white light. What a gorgeous car—wonderful elongated shape with so much glass and beautiful headlights and taillights! Many people don't realize that Gen 4 Prius Prime is a totally different-looking car than Gen 4 Prius. It will be hard to let my blue 2021 Prius Prime Limited go.

    SE is perhaps the least available trim, and black is one of the least available colors, which makes a black SE a rarity. So, despite being No. 1 on the waiting list, statistically, I don't expect to be allocated one until at least the summer. Perhaps it will even slip to the 2025 model year. LOL

    I think you’ll get it sooner than that especially because you are 1st on the list at a dealership that gets first dibs.
