I still don't understand why Toyota didn't put a compact donut spare in ALL Prius models. When I took mine out to look in there, I couldn't believe how light it is!

So I don't believe their baloney that NOT having a spare tire improves gas mileage. Horsefeathers!
What's funny is, the folks that don't have a spare, they load up that space with all kinds of stuff that probably weighs MORE than the donut tire!:ROFLMAO:

Yep, cheaper than towing all these cars for 3 years. Lot of wasted space under that mat and my wife hates the lower back floor board.

It's looks like today's new car are w/o spares cost cutting? I carry a bottle of fix a flat, plug kit and a compressor! Not offen you get a flat! Depend on your luck! I recall my wife jeep one stretch she would get 3 flats a month! I learn to get really good using tire rope plugs!

I got a Corolla donut from a car headed for auction at my one job. Had it ever since. It was like new and I couldn't beat the price. I had to put my jack back in though (under the drivers seat). I had originally removed it since there was no spare. I had kept the tire kit in the car though.

Get a lightweight pair of wheel chocks, use them on the tire diagonally across from the flat. It actually shows that you should use wheel chocks in the Owner's Manual, but they're not supplied.

The Toyota jack is poor for sure. What's frustrating with it is just the torque rod connection style, where the rod hooks onto the jack. It's a cast, single eye, and the rod hook dances around with every revolution. Our Hondas came with a similar construction scissor jack, but instead of the cast piece there was a U-shape bent plate with two holes, about 3/4" appart, that the rod hooks through. Immensely more stable as you crank it.

Another good accessory to bring along: a small square of plywood, to act as a sub-base for the jack, on gravel or dirt.

    I got this one:

    Kt-340 - BlackJack Tire Repair

You can get a bubble pack kit at Walmart for $10, but hey you only live once. It does come with a ton of plugs, in 2 diameters, spare needle, nice case.

How bout carrying a tire iron and an inner tube? That's a lot smaller than a spare. And it would really satisfy that need that some have to "do it yourself." ;) I suppose I'm going with "I hope I never get a flat outside of cell phone range."

When I was 8 or 9, my father insisted that I learn how to fix a flat with tire irons and inner tubes (a hammer came in handy). That's when I learned how to properly use curse words.

Taken one at a time, 10 pounds here, 5 pounds there, these design and marketing decisions don't make enough MPG difference for any single customer to notice. But the designers accumulate a hundred of these decisions, which really do add up. And when they are tasked by the marketing department with meeting a specific EPA label rating, even rounding errors must be tracked.

I don't think an inner tube has a chance, just the TPMS for starters, and no one but no one is doing bead breaking by the side of the road. Kind assume this was in jest? Plug repair yes. Or spare, my preferred.
