    I don't understand why a spare donut for Toyota's I'm seeing are 16"? Thought they'd be 15?

You should avoid northern Maine in the wintertime.

I'd be careful mixing different sized rims on the same axle, since doing so might confuse the car's computers and they'll start flagging ABS errors etc etc... (just sayin'...)

If the circumference is identical to the other tires how would the computers know the rim size is different?

It can't be much of a factor: using the temp spare does that.

The Toyota corolla space saver saver wheel unused on my local Craig's list is specified  T135/80R16.

This will work right ? In gonna offer $50 for it. Keep it in my truck or wife's Prius just in case.

That's the spec showing in my 2010 Prius Owner's Manual, should be good. I would take the plunge, get it, and then trial install, even drive up/down the driveway, just for giggles.

And measure its circumference and the circumference of one of your regular tires.

I think the temp spares are slightly smaller OD, say 1/4".

Pretty simple to take the mounted and inflated tires and run a tape around them. Then you know for sure, and can easily figure the % difference if they are not the same.

I fed it into my spreadsheet some time back. Theoretical value, but should be close.

Agreed, but as a scientist I like to measure things to check theoretical calculations, especially when it's easy to do so.

You knew that was red flag to a bull, didn't you?

Anyway, couldn't find a flexible fabric tape long enough, and regular steel tapes were kinking/protesting, so I ended up using a thickish nylon rope. The subjects were a 195/65R15 X-Ice with near-new tread, and my Prius temp spare 135/80D16. My wife helped position the rope, making sure it was on the crest and not slipping into a groove.

Anyway, in both cases the rope measured 79.25". Now this is going around the centroid of the rope, outside of the tire OD, so a bit greater than the actual OD, but what shakes out is that they're the same, as near as I could measure.

I also stacked one atop the other, on a concrete slab, pushed a square against one side and aligned them, then checked the other side: also aligned.

(perspective at work here, they're actually near identical OD)

Nice work! Isn't research fun? Your wife is a gem, but I suppose you knew that already.
