Oil Catch Can, Eliminate that knock!

    I will modify our ball jar and install a brass filter (I have 4 left) for the 2010 and install a new 3/8 hose too. Not sure about how much flow is restricted but you can breath through the brass filter. I do not have a cel, so far so good. I know there are two different mishimoto filters that use them. Prius runs smooth.

    I have seen the dual can setup. Like I have said in my first post. I do not know what catch can is the best. Everyone has wild claims. I want the proof. I have adopted what I have seen to experiment with. Only time/miles will tell.

    What ever happened to that misfire problem you had last year? Was it a bad coil/spark plug?

    Misfire followed spark plug when switched around, so it was a bad spark plug with less than 20K miles on it. I can't say what the reason was. I tried some of the multimeter tests for resistance and conductivity, and the bad plug had poor conductivity, but so did the others. Maybe they were fouled by stuff coming through the PCV.

    Drove the prius 440 miles from Jan 26 till today. Hoses are still clear! Catch can is working better than ever. You can see there are tiny little spots (size of ball point pen) of moisture/condensation in the clear hose. Air temps were ranging from 19~36 degrees fahrenheit.

    You just need one tap. Buy the 3/8 brass filter so you will not need the 3/8 to 1/4 reducer. Use clean motor oil throughout the tap/cutting process. Turn the tap 1/2 turn in, back out. Clean threads and turn 1 full turn in, back out and clean threads. Repeat this until you have 1/2 inch of threads or so. Do not force the tap, doing this correctly will not break the tap, the aluminum is soft.

    The mishimoto guys say it is washable. Not sure how many miles it will be effective/good for, but will monitor it every week when I empty the occ. The clear hose will also be an indicator of how well it works. As far as restriction goes, I think as long as it is not plugged, works for me, too much flow may have been the problem in the first place. The pcv system just releases hot gas pressure from the crankcase so oil seals don't leak, the other is so combustible (oil/fuel) FUMES can be burned off without releasing them into the atmosphere. I prefer this to be a Fumes only and keep the WET mucus out to keep a clean combustion process. This should further help keep egr system, valves, pistons, intake/exhaust ports, spark plugs and injectors clean for better mpg and power. The oil in theory should stay cleaner. Burning oil creates nasty carbon buildup.

    Thanks for the info. The fact that the filter can be cleaned makes it easy to switch out a clean filter for a dirty one.

    Going to install on the Camry as soon as all the parts & tools come in. I'm sure you've already answered this but I want to double check: Ideal location for the can, ignoring hiding it from the CA smog test people, is up high correct? And it goes before the valve in this diagram?

    Not sure about that pic, the oil catch can goes between the pcv valve and the intake manifold, in series along that hose, up to you how. I don't believe it matters if it's higher or lower; mine I did lower, it was just convenient, shorter hose runs and there was more room.
