Fold up the back seats and you can haul one around. Might impact MPG.

I believe that dog is ill and suffering. Bringing that has nothing to do with the discussion of an object's appearance, much less the definition of beauty perception.

    No kidding!
A human-oriented bred blind dog, yet not suffering (?), and yet healthy (?) makes a lot of sense when respect to admiring or ranting an object.

That dog was a rescue dog and lasted 15 years, sounds like he did ok to me. He was one of the winners of the contest sponsored by the Humane Society, that shows even dogs like that can have a loving home.

Went by my local small town NC dealer to see the 2016 and RAV4 hybrid. Dealer had one 2016 hatchback he had gotten and it was sold. Any he was getting were all pre-sold. None on lot though that afternoon the regional guy was bringing one in to do a train the mechanics session.

Drove the RAV4 Limited Hybrid. Very different from the v.

    Plus:
    • Conventional instrument display in front of driver, almost like they were hiding the hybrid functionality from you.
    • Really comfortable seats. Nice materials.
    • Height of back seats allows knee to foot drop very comfortable for a 6' person.
    • Acceleration like wife's V6. No transmission noise like the v, just louder engine it seemed.
    • Never was conscious it was a hybrid though I picked it up cold and only drove it a mile. Never even spotted a hybrid mode display.
    • Brakes normal car feel.
    • Spare tire.
    • Map updates via plug in memory stick said to be $120ish if you can believe salesperson (not the $300+ for the v I was lied to about).
    • Rubber mats in the drink holders.
    • Lever parking brake.

    Minus:
    • Noise from tires much worse than the v though some may be due to the tire selection and road surface. But not muted at all and overall louder than my v.
    • Distance in rear seat from butt to knee is less than the v with front seats in rearmost position.
    • Less under cargo area storage. (In my v under cargo deck areas I store jumper cables, tire irons, flares, golf umbrella and 4 clubs.)
    • Cargo area floor not flat even with rear seats in normal upright position.
    • Sun roof a requirement if you want the highly optioned version with all the newest safety nannies.
    • Rear seat headroom not significantly better than the v due to raised seats and battery placement (my kids are 6'5" and 6'6").
    • Length of cargo area not much different than the v (shocked, it seemed smaller) but height and load opening much bigger (did not measure).
    • Rear cargo door has automatic raise feature but is a lot slower than I could raise it manually.
    • Only one glove compartment.
    • Multi color dash and seats (I prefer one color for each).
    • Made in Japan with 90%+ non-US content.

Definitely got the up high SUV feeling.

Considering it would probably cost me $20k+ to trade in a v with less than 30k miles, I think I'll pass for now.

I think it could be a winner except for the price. I can see why in the US the v would be ultimately discontinued.

I just don't care for the cutesie Rav4.

I think Toyota should focus on bringing the v three-row seating model to the NA market. I'm confident it would outsell Mazda's 6 seater wagon (plus 1...which might be the advantage right there, and more room).

Folks want a small people mover. If you can shoehorn 7 in the car, and obtain spectacular mileage, it's a hit.
My neighbor, who transports 5 kids to school in an older Chevy Tahoe would buy it.
The platform is in place, the new battery pack available, a splendid history of reliability....tweak the nose and nice person for 2017, or 2018, and everyone is happy.
    A no brainer.

If it doesn't adequately sell, move on. It's not like they dropped millions in R&D creating a new model.

Honestly, what I would love is a slightly longer v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) I want something to take 4 people camping. I mean the v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) is fine and may be what we go with to replace my husband's Rav4 if the (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) stays around. I don't want a highlander, I don't want something wider or taller, I just want something a little longer and maybe a 3rd row v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) would fit that bill if you could hide the 3rd row.

I agree with you but I am a rare wagon/minivan fan. You are talking about the Mazda 5 right? Discontinued due to lack of interest according to a recent poster here.

Yep, the Mazda5 is no more in North America, and I was looking forward to seeing it with the SkyActiv treatment.
I believe it was 7 seats in other markets, but either way the rear seats were tiny, and most in the US would see them as kids only. Which is likely how the 3 row Prius v and C-max would be seen also.

Interesting how different we each are in our desires for what a "car" delivers in the way of economy, utility, style, etc.

Though I've seen the v on three continents, I've never seen the three seat v and can't imagine it would sell in the US where people are bigger and there expectations are a mini-van room and access. I can't even imagine my 10 year old grand-daughter climbing back there.
