Good luck pre-loading a horizontal mounted filter.

I SUPPOSE you COULD use that as an argument in a misguided attempt to support not changing the filter.

Stick around.....at some point "Prius culture" will get you to stop throwing those $5 bills away and filling the landfills with clean oil filters.

"QUOTE....I've never filled new oil filters with oil even though some recommend it...the thing fills up super-fast when the engine starts so I don't see how that could be harmful to anything."

When you have a spin-on filter that mounts vertically, it's practical to prefill the filter. You'll avoid that full second of valve chatter on start-up. The metal to metal contact is audible if you don't prefill - and high milers don't like to hear that. On a vertically mounted filter you're going to make a mess, but you could do a partial prefill and see how that works.

I recycle my old filters and peer pressure quit influencing my behavior a long time ago. Facts generally have more of an influence, not opinions. ;)

I agree with you 100% on "facts". Here are some facts to mull while recycling those filters -

Sorry, but I missed the facts in your attempt to influence my behavior by peer pressure and ridicule. :sneaky:

If Phillips head screws secure the panel, the rust belt can indeed pose a challenge. The corrosion risk with those screws is real. Consider exploring anti-rust measures or replacements with more corrosion-resistant alternatives to ensure long-term durability

On my ‘22 Prius the screws are plastic, the bolts are metal, but the bolts screw into plastic. I strongly suspect that it will be a significant historical event if the salt causes the plastic to corrode.
