I didn't know about the hardness inconsistencies. Sounds like quite a research project. I would think they would need to be fairly consistent to achieve their wear and traction promises.

I've also read on motorcycle forums that road surface texture can have a big impact. Lots of riders in Texas, for example, had been reporting very rapid tire wear under otherwise similar conditions.

US Hwy roads outside of the major cities in Texas can be really rough... Whenever I drive west out of State, I normally have to keep my speeds in the low to mid 60s, just to maintain MPG's in the mid 40s

I noticed that, too, last time I was there. And LOUD roads.

Thanks! No real concern with those 105,000 miles. I live in the high desert (2300' msl) of Southern California and my round trip commute of 84 miles to Edwards AFB is flat terrain at 65-70 MPH in the slow lane. (53 MPG week after week). Average yearly rainfall is 7.5 inches and temps seldom below 32 deg. Without fail, I rotated those tires every 5000 miles. I usually ran 37 psi front and 35 rear. They could have gone farther but, . . that was enough.

Have Orig Continentals on Prius V. Still good tread after 49K. Probably run it until 60K. In Michigan, and Florida
