The EGR cooler is definitely steel - it's magnetic. I've used strong neodymium magnets to stick plastic wrap on the ends of the cooler to seal in solvent. Another tip: I had to use a few layers of plastic wrap for the magnetic plug. Fold the wrap neatly/carefully.

There are probably better options than plastic wrap and as soon as I find some time I'll experiment with them. Another idea is to cut up a coke can and add a circular bead of RTV to seal the sheet metal.

Rubber stoppers would be good. Maybe @Raytheeagle can measure and post the Iinside diameters of the the two ends, of the EGR cooler? Hopefully both the same.

Might not be until the weekend, but I'll dust off the Caliper and supply the info.

Heading into the city for some culture today. The wife got us tickets to see Hamilton.

    ID is 1 inch;).

Got back early from the show so I was able to measure.

Also for your pleasure, here is a screen available on the Lexus RX450h:

Maybe they'll come around to making it available on the Prius someday soon(y).

    Thanks for that.

With the pic your focus is tire pressures, interesting. Also, I like the (semi?) analogue speedo: miles and kms available at a glance. Directly in front of the driver?

Focus is training the wife on driving efficient ;). The tire pressure screen is just one of 7 or 8 screen options in the center of the drivers display when the info option is chosen for the big 12.3" screen on the top.

There are many different options for the large dash screen, then you can transfer them over to the drivers dash. I have the HSI screen up and trying to acclimate the wife to this.

While her car was at the dealer for the last 5 days she was driving our Prius and the mpg was showing 46 this morning when I got in:(. I asked why it was so low and she said she was going faster than the posted limit on the freeway:confused:.

There will be a steep learning curve:sick:.

There's a large and in charge knob in the center that is hard to miss:

    IMG_0472.JPG

    Haven't tried "Sport mode" yet.

Here's a pic of the screens from the drivers seat:

    IMG_0473.JPG

The 12.3" screen splits up so you can have multiple things on it at one time.

    Too much technology for me:whistle:.

Thank goodness for LKA and BSM to me out of trouble from messing with the gadgets (y).

Its a very simple valve that gets moved open and close by the actuator, that's it, it won't stick. Its the same as the old civic EGR, they have worked like that for the last 20 years. I have never heard of one getting stuck because it wasn't lubed. Please post where you're getting this information from.

the spring end of the plunger is sealed with the egr cap therefore no dirt or soot will come in contact. If you press the plunger in and out 15 times you will notice the plunger will stick at least 2 times. Its just a suggestion, you can do whatever you want.

I'm confused by what you just explained, but if you want to lube the plunger, that's all you. We don't do it and we don't recommend it.

He said it himself, the EGR valve is stuck open, basically the mechanism is bad. If you're talking about a normal working EGR valve being sticky then that rarely happens. It's either stuck open or stuck closed if it's bad and if either of those happens, you will get a code and it means it's time to replace the EGR valve.

The EGR valve is controlled by the actuator, the actuator is controlled by the ECU, the ECU opens and closes the EGR valve by sensors on the vehicle. I wouldn't worry if the EGR valve is sticky because if it's bad, it will throw a code on either it's stuck open or stuck closed.

Like I said, if you want to lube the valve, by all means you do you. We're going by our knowledge.

My wife brought the car home last night with the display showing 4.1 liter/100 km. Love her!

4.1 displayed equates to maybe 4.4 actual, which translates to 53 mpg. :)
