Notes on changing the engine coolant on a gen 3

Drain the rad first, then see if much more comes out of the heat exchanger; see what you get.

 

Aisin, who are the OEM manufacturer of the water pump, recommend squeezing the radiator hose next to the thermostat several times after filling the coolant reservoir to burp out the air. It does not get all the air, but it helps.

 

Yup here in a bit when I do it I will drain the rad and then go drain location by drain location to see what comes out. But yeah even though the radiator is the "lowest point" it has a high point in the engine hoses that goes up so anything behind that point will still be in the system lol. I figured this out the first time when i did my heat exchanger after draining my radiator and there was still a lot of coolant. This was probably a year ago though so I don't remember exact amounts though.
