My guess is no, or only a small amount if it did. What I recall of reading about the new pack was that engineers came up with a better arrangement to pack the cells in, not a change in chemistry.

too bad, i'll never get her into a car with less trunk space, even with a plug.

The Clarity PHEV has a 15cu.ft. trunk. The 7 gallon tank could be an issue on long trips. Much better than an i3 REx though.

that's a possibility, the tank size is an issue on our florida trip. i have heard that honda doesn't discount, so price would be an important factor.
you can usually pick up new toyota's at deep discounts if you time it right.

A deep discount won't make up for a tiny trunk though.

Boston to Orlando would require 5 stops for gas in a Clarity, not counting the EV range at the beginning nor potential charges at stops.

It never ceases to amaze me how we all make assumptions based on our experiences. Imagine a EV making the same trip. How many stops? Imagine a ICE mini-Van making the same trip with grandpa and grandma and a couple of kids. How many stops? Heck we probably made that many from Raleigh to Orlando. Yea in my 30s I did DC to Houston in one day but that sure isn't the norm now.

Well, a long range Tesla would need the same number of stops, but more time at them. Charging up to 80%, and leaving before the charge rate tapers off will save some wait time, but then you need to charge more often.

I stop more often on long trips now to stretch the legs.

The Tesla route planner showed 8 stops.

Oops, I was just considering the car's range, not where the chargers were currently at.
Some of those stops likely would require the full charge time as the car will be arriving with some charge left.

definitely need the trunk size for a phev. for a bev, it's just too much downtime yet. we stop quite a bit on road trips, but there are no chargers at the rest stops. we only fill the hycam twice in 1,300 miles, and some rest stops have gas stations. otherwise, you can find one at most any exit.

With the prevalence of gas stations, I figure adding more fill ups for a Clarity with the other stops wouldn't be a major hassle.

How many times a year do you do that trip?

just once, down and back. other trips aren't as far, and only random as we desire. my wife won't spend more than 3 days in the car, it's an airplane after that.

it probably wouldn't be. definitely something to consider. but again, clarity price will be important. i will definitely keep my eye out, maybe even a one year old or something.

another member posted a link to massachusetts plug in pricing table. i see the plug in clarity nets out at 20k with incentives. that's not too shabby. now to see if my wife will drive a honda.(n)

Sounds like a Model Y would be perfect for you. Seems like buying a gasser just for one trip a year would be a waste. And if you stay overnight somewhere on the trip that would be probably 2 less stops you would have to make on the trip to charge, and even less if you stay overnight 2 nights during the trek.

This should be the link for destination chargers:
    Find Us | Tesla
Obviously it's just Tesla chargers and not any of the other networks. And of course this will increase greatly in the 2 or 3 years it takes for the Model Y to be ready.

we pulled into hotel row in rocky mount nc on the way home this year. there was a tesla station centrally located, but a good walk to the hotel. not sure i'd be comfortable leaving it there overnight.

ps, i don't see it on the map.(n) found it, had to add superchargers.
