I called several others on the list. Not a single one will ship the battery. They said in the past (maybe a year ago?) when there wasn't a core fee, they used to ship. But now it is simply too expensive. Some were also concerned about having the correct handling of the pack. So.... The list in the original post may be helpful to find what dealers around the country are charging, but it may have nothing to do with the price your local dealer is charging.
A local dealer may have no incentive to price match, since you cannot actually get a pack at the listed price unless you pick it up in person.

It makes sense that the core fee is not returned until they fully confirm your pack. This helps avoid the nasty surprise of people who are filling cores with junk and turning them in, as well as other things.

I emailed a Toyota dealership in Southern Colorado that quoted $2500+, but in a follow-up email they said they were happy to price match. I didn't pursue the discussion since I do not require a battery at the moment.

my bolding -- I find that hard to believe, but no doubt a core charge exists.

As for the month delay -- <<shrug>>
If you do not have the cash then put the charge on a credit card that gives you ~ a month to pay. Worse case pay a couple of dollars in interest.

Have you checked your craigslist yet? Also, I was told you can purchase the cells yourself and make a pack.

Have to edit as reply was meant for Eric's proposal. Aa for the new packs - the situation wit Gen-1 is unclear as those seems to have been stopped manufactured and Toyota seems to be selling the old stock. Capacity of those packs (38 Modules) could be reduced.
Has anyone got the transcript of the code on the pack being transcoded into the production year?

I believe Eric does mention his warranty does not apply to commercial use.

That is a wrong belief. The battery pack from Toyota are brand new and the warranty of 1 year is standard Toyota warranty on replacement parts.

The fact that it has a 1 year warranty does not mean it will only last 1 year, but recognises that on the balance of probability, if the battery has a defect and is going to fail, that it will fail within 12 months. If it is free of defect for 12 months, the probability is that it will remain defect free for it's engineered life.

I would not place too much stock in warranties or the implicit meaning of a warranty.

There are plenty of current reports in PC of people having multiple problems with a re-engineered pack and then further problems getting the supplier the either honor the warranty or effect the warranty in a timely fashion.

    My $0.02.

    Doji and kinglew,
Please reserve this thread for posts of vendors and their battery prices.

    Thanks

My 2005 has 213K on it, seems to be nearing the need for a replacement battery. When will new batteries be available through PriusChat shop or your website? I am in NJ which is a bit of a drive to Madison, WI.

Falcon Hybrid is close to me, but I am seeing a lot of bad experience with them.

    Thanks in advance,

    Tom

Has the car thrown a code? How much longer do you intend to keep the car? New batteries go for 8 years or more.

It hasn't thrown a code yet, but I keep an eye on the MFD pictogram of the battery charge. This is definitely a subjective an unscientific way, but the battery does not remain in a fully charged state (full green bars) like it used to.

I am the original owner and wish to hold onto this car for another five years at least. My wife has the 2003 Civic Hybrid (with 5 speed manual, bonus) and we've replaced her pack twice. The first time American Honda stepped up and replaced free of charge, the second one we did back in May '14. She has about the same mileage.

Sage will get on my nice person if I tell you about refurbished batteries on this thread.

I suggest you wait until you car throws a code, which can take a while, then go shop for a new battery in your neck of the woods. That will almost ensure you get another 5+ years of reliable service from the battery. How well the rest of the car holds up will be a big unknown.

Thanks. I have been reading various threads here about refurbs, new is the preferred way. I was reading Eric's post in this thread and checked the Shop, no batteries for sale yet.

Interesting, but please reserve this thread for NEW, OEM batteries.
