I still can't access Priuschat.com. I can only access the forums and the PriusChat shop.

I'm trying to purchase some things from the shop and was able to add a bunch of stuff to the shopping cart.

However, when I tried to checkout, it gave me an error and would not proceed.

I should probably ask in a new thread, but... Does the PriusChat shop sell the EV button? I can't seem to find it there... Any recommendations as to where to get one?

    Thank you very much!

    1. Whenever I do just about anything involving a search context,
such as viewing new posts, I get this "301 moved permanently"
redirect that then just SITS there for like 20 seconds before
finally going to grab the redirected page. I don't think that's
a browser issue because while the old server sent me through
plenty of redirects, especially when posting a new message, they
were all nice and fast. This "301" HTTP status thing is new
behavior and frankly nullifies all the effects of the other
very nice speedups that the new machine has brought.
    .
    2. I'm being unable to post a reply to a current, running, valid
thread, that being the "NJ Green Prix" discussion. Trying to
post via /forums/newreply.php?do=postreply&t=45662 fails with a
404, which is odd since newreply.php just worked to enter this
post. Is there more thread-numbering lossage going on? Please,
no more of *that* nightmare if we can possibly help it.

It might just be me but everything seems to load slower. I am on satellite. Other websites seem to load normal at the same time.... jf

For me (I'm on cable), this is the fastest I've ever seen PriusChat since I joined in February 2007.

argh, i hate the hyperlink issue....

if you try to include the "http : / / " part of the hyperlink, it doesn't work and displays a 2.

There's something else goofy...at least at my end. I'm having some long page loads...30 seconds sometimes.

The system was trying to do a full scheduled backup. I'm having the server admins change the timing of that.

Re: Cannot Post with a Hyperlink in the Post

This morning my well crafted post was lost. I had no hyperlink but I did have an attached image in a quote from another post. After submitting, all I saw was the 2 instead of the thread and my post was vapourized. Doh!

This site in general sucks (not the content the way it is run). I've been using the site since February and half the time the site does not load and the other half it is slow as molasses. I think a bunch of third graders could run it better. There's no excuse to have problems like this for months.

Hey we're back! I was getting 404 for everything yesterday afternoon and this morning.

The bright news is that the site seems much faster when its working. :)

    Hang in there, Danny! :D

Hey sendconroypacking, it's not like you're expecting a
pro-rated refund of your monthly bill because of that, right?
    .
I have more input on the redirect slowness thing. The Priuschat
site is trying to keep the connection open after the 301,
possibly hoping my browser will chain the next request across
the same TCP connection. If I do some manual testing I can
actually see this happening. If I run through a proxy script
that makes sure to put a "Connection: close" header in with
the request, then it's nice and snappy.
    .
This hold-the-connection open behavior is new with the new site,
and isn't really needed [and obviously screws up some clients].
Any possibility of finding the configury that governs that and
have it close all data connections once a page has been sent?
It might be in the apache config somewhere, not sure.

I'm back to losing posts again. If I knew what the time limit was before I get kicked out and my efforts disappear, I'd have a better chance of sticking to it.

My PayPal email address is [email protected]. I appreciate you financially supporting the site.

Hobbit, this may be a "thing" with Apache2 (the new server runs it, the old one ran 1.3). I'm not really sure what to look for, but I'll start probing Google about the setting - if you find anything first, let me know.

Did you get redirected to the "page with the 2 on it"? What time did this happen? There isn't a time limit that I know of, but I will check into it.

Hey, Danny, I understand your frustration. Sorry to complain - the site is much faster lately, and I do appreciate your efforts. The last time I got kicked out was the last time I signed in, about an hour ago. I didn't get any 'page 2': I saw a message that said I couldn't post because I wasn't signed in. I was when I started the post...It seems if I pause for a break while writing a post, I'm signed off in the meantime, and I don't find that out until I hit the post button sometime later. I'm sure this isn't your most pressing problem, and I'll certainly forgive you for throwing your monitor out the window and going for a long walk. :)

Haha, no problem, Hyo. I appreciate the constructive comments that help address issues with the site. Just to check, are you selecting "Remember Me' when you log-in? The site used to have this checked by default, but with the software upgrade it is no longer the default. I'll change that soon.

To be honest, Danny, I haven't paid much attention to the 'remember me' check box. What does it do? Will it make a difference to my posting? Does it affect security at all? Most of my posting isn't affected. But if I take a phone call mid-post, or rethink what I'm writing and change things around, or start waxing eloquently instead of my usual cryptic cynicism, the words are gone.

    Danny,
I'm starting to see long page loads again...11.49 sec. for this page to load....I've seen some over 30 sec. this afternoon. It was blistering fast this morning.

LOL! I'm just busting chops. I hadn't gotten a chance to ball someone out yet today. This might be a stupid question but.... From what I gather the code for Priuschat was written by the administrator (or at least some of them). Whenever I've built a website I've written the code on a development machine at home (usually with MySQL, Apache, and various languages). Once I got everything working and tested I would pay a hosting company to host it. Once I had an account at the hosting company I would move all the code to the hosting companies servers and let them host it. I did this for several reasons. One it is cheap to have someone else host it, far cheaper than purchasing my own equipment. Second I usually accepted credit cards on the sites and wanted someone else to have the liability for the credit card transactions (I would usually interface to the shopping cart not use a local one, they are a rip off). Third, I wanted to dedicate my time to improving the code and adding new functionality not spending my time worrying about configuring servers and buying equipment. Finally if the servers are set up at a home location more downtime will occur simply because home access is not on as large of a backbone as the larger hosting companies.

So is Priuschat being served out of someone's home? It would appear that way from the posts being submitted by the Admins. Why not let someone else have that headache? A good hosting plan would cost less than $50 per month (including a shopping cart). Just curious.
