Thanks everyone for showing up in this beautiful summer day. It's nice to finally meet the people and get to know the realname (instead screenname) Maybe next meet will be at some place cool. 90+ degree with high humidity is not very comfortable, especially under the sun. Fortunate, Hobbits folding canopy save the day.
Nice to at least wave at everybody before being pulled off to the wading pool by my daughter and her friend (next time one of them says they'd LOVE to go see other Priuses, I'll have to remember to add "for 30 seconds"). -- Adam, in the other red Prius.
Thanks everyone for coming today. Was fun but hot. Looking forward to the next one already. (Just noticed who's reading this thread. LOL) And thanks Hobbit for the sample stuff and the TENT - we would've died without it.
Well, I had a blast! It was great meeting all of you! And for those who missed it, you're always welcome to have a get-together at my place (and hey, I have an in-ground pool!)
Looks like a good gathering despite the heat and wind. Hope the next one is even bigger. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Stev0 @ Jul 15 2007, 10:59 PM) </div> Do you need an engine block heater installed ? Wayne
I hope to be getting one before the winter comes. Join us next time? Looooooooooooooooooooooooooong drive though!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Neicy @ Jul 16 2007, 12:43 PM) </div> Done it once so far this year, easy enough. Wayne
Thanks for posting the pictures Hobbit and Icabod (btw Lucinda is beautiful). It was a good time despite the heat and wind. Maybe next meet-up, with a little more lead time, we can get a larger crowd and a cooler [B)] more comfy spot somewhere.
So, apparently the Boston WBZ-TV [cbs] piece airs TONIGHT, as part of the 11pm news. I'm hoping to hook up with a local friend with a working TV and means of recording it. I think that's channel 4 around here, but I really don't keep track of these things. . Aside, I'm finally home from my long Hybridfest jaunt which turned from one week into two weeks on the road and was well worth it. There's a ton of Hybridfest fallout over on CleanMPG [use the search engine or poke around under the "events & gatherings" section]. . My August is startin' to pack up a little ... any ideas for more local activity this month? Cookouts? Tours? MPG clinics? EBH installfests? . _H*
Well with the mad rush on EBH purchases in the GROUP BUY (link at the TOP of the page... ) I think that's a safe bet. If there are supplies that we as a group could share (efusco mentioned dielectric grease, splitloom tubing, is there anything else extra needed?) then it would be extra good to do it as a group.
The CBS segment aired; text of it [more or less] is here. . It must be firmly understood that the "boston driver" who was annoyed at us on Storrow was because of the *video truck* sticking right beside me, blocking the passing lane! And the horn was probably something unrelated, at a completely different place as we went through a bunch of lights at Fenway to turn around and where people beep all the time for no particularly good reason. . _H*
The video (or part of it) is on their web site under special reports: http://wbztv.com/specialreports Check it out!
I've tried N different ways to find those video clips. Their site design is such that it's completely obfuscated under scripting crap, which doesn't work in my browser environment. Why they can't just provide a straight HTML link to the media file, I can't imagine. If someone manages to dig out the real FINAL filename and post it, I would be delighted. . _H*
Try to copy & paste this. I don't know if this is quite what you're looking for, but it's different. It won't let me download the clip to my computer by right clicking. http://wbztv.com/video/
Here's the URL of the actual media... you need an FLV player to watch it though... unless there's some website that will play FLVs from other sites' URLs: http://cbstv.vo.llnwd.net/e1/n3d/0008/flas...2p0000850p9.flv A firefox extension called Firebug is handy for finding all the bits and pieces that sites load. I use it for web developing, but it's also good for reverse-developing
Thanks for posting the links on the Hypermiling piece. I saw Hobbit in the news promos earlier in the evening but of course ended up falling asleep before it came on. I will probably get in on the group buy for the EBH so an installfest after the order comes in would be a nice get together.
Hi folks, I'm in the Cambridge/Boston area and I'm thinking about buying a used Prius but I want to get it checked out by a mechanic before I buy. Can anyone make any recommendations for someone in the area? Thanks for your help!
A private sale, I'm assuming, not going through a Toyota dealer, right? I can recommend the 2 places I take my Toyotas, but I'm not sure either will help you: 1. My regular mechanic is fair, honest, and also a family friend so that helps It's Oriental Imports, in Brighton just off Harvard St. 2. The dealer where I bought my Prius is Wellesley Toyota, and their sales-people were fairly well informed, not rude or pushy. Their service department has only done good work in exactly the way I ask them to do it. Their parts department sold me a fuse at a reasonable price (Prius has a unique and hard to find type of fuse) and just gave me a few oil drain gaskets at no charge too Your personal info says you have a '08 package 9 Prius... You don't have that do you? Any mechanic can check the mechanical stuff in the Prius as it's fairly standard, and in some ways simpler than other cars. The hybrid components, I don't know about getting those looked at, other than maybe taking it to a Toyota dealer and having them give it a look.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Ichabod @ Oct 19 2007, 10:16 AM) </div> Thanks for the help Ichabod...no I don't have an '08 Prius...just filled in that info during registration cause I couldn't figure out how to not put in any info. Looking forward to joining you guys on this forum "officially" soon...
