I will be doing the factory EV button mod soon... mine hasn't shipped yet, but yes, if there's prep work that can be done, I'd love to do it, or see how it's done if someone else has the button and will be installing it. Tools to bring? Driving techniques could be fun... maybe DIY maintenance stuff too? You must be clicking on a different link because when I click on it I get the parking lot... but yes it's the one you described. Be careful if you enter coords into your navi for directions because you might end up on the wrong side of the river Here are pictures of the location with arrows for lot entrances. I'd suggest a place to meet in the lot, but that really depends on how many other cars are there... I don't think we'll have trouble spotting each other though: [attachmentid=9646]
We should have a backup plan. In case the parking lot is fill up, we can meet up at the smaller parking lot. If there is an event in the charles river area, this huge parking lot will be fill up with cars. There are 2 smaller parking lot before arriving to this huge parking lot. That the backup lot. Sound like a good plan?
So, I was just down there today, but across the street: shooting a segment about hypermiling with CBS. Read the rest here . Oh, and thanx for the clarified set of pix. That's about where I thought, but the google link was all screwed up. . _H*
Another fun happening from today -- I pulled up next to another prius in front of Alewife on the way in, that was totally *festooned* with bumper stickers. Got him to roll down the window and since he didn't know about it, told him to check out priuschat.com and find the "new england" forum -- said he would, do not know if it's that easy to remember something some nutcase hollered at you from the next car.. . So have we settled on 11am, or is that still too early? We'll be hanging out for several hours, I imagine, so later arrivals should be able to find us [including per the above Backup Plan if needed]. Folks should bring camp chairs! The vintage car meet near where I live had lots of folks sitting around in front of their cars on camp chairs. And a cooler full o' cold beverages would be a good addition; I don't have a cooler, though.. and as far a food, well, are we thinking more lunch-timeframe or dinner-timeframe? Would that affect how long people are willing to stick around, and when? . _H*
Should we be accommodating and say noon? That way it's not so early, but not so terribly late. I have a cooler and I'll pack in a few drinks, and maybe a few snacks too. Maybe dinner at a nearby restaurant would work well since that will give people time to show up, hang out, mod, etc. Now I'll be the annoying one and PM the few people who've expressed interest but haven't chimed in recently...
Hey guys, I won't be able to make the meet ;; I have a birthday party to go to that day. If I didn't have to drive round trip approx 5 hours, I could make it. I'm really sorry I won't be able to attend because I do have the EV button and was hoping to install it there, plus I would have liked to have met you. I hope you all have a good time and hope to make the next one.
Well, the weather report for Sunday wasn't too happy last night, but seems to be improving. What I'll probably do is bring my canopy and set it up next to the car for a place to duck under if it does rain; hopefully there'll be room to set that up and not piss off other people wanting to park in the lot. Finding a shady corner would be useful, too, but I don't know if that's possible there.. . I'm all in favor of having another one farther north, maybe sometime after hybridfest.. maybe even with a little rally or "poker run" sort of route like the bike clubs do. Except with less drinking... . _H*
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(hobbit @ Jul 14 2007, 09:22 AM) </div> Mrs Khan wants to climb Mt Washington. And by "climb" we mean "drive". Anyone have any thoughts on hybrids going up and down something like Washington? Can the batteries handle that much recharging (coming back down)? -Gren (2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid) ps. Hi all!
Grendel, climbing hills is no problem in the Prius, as long as you're not flooring it all the way up. See you all tomorrow at noon!
Hi Guys, What are the group demographics on those who are meeting tommorrow? Anyone bringing their kids? I have an 11 year-old but if I leave her at home I will probably have to cut out early and skip dinner.
Try 1225 Soldiers Field Road Boston Ma That should get you there. Why not bring kids? I don't see any problems with that. Then you can stay longer! So it's at Noon?
I may be able convince my wife and 6 week old daughter to come. Then again, she's on a ridiculous nursing schedule right now, so you might only get to meet my FIRST baby ( Prius! ). And yes, noon. If any of us decide to show up a little before then I'm sure we'll wait around for others. Stev0, you could also try the coords that Hobbit wrote in... or get on google maps and pinpoint the coordinates. now that I think of it, I've never entered coords into the navi before.... probably worth a shot. You can also scroll the map manually and enter a point as a destination.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Ichabod @ Jul 14 2007, 07:23 PM) </div> I didn't even know you could enter coordinates in the NAV.
Darn! We missed it. We had company here all week and this is the first chance I had to check this thread in a while. Oh well, hopefully next time!
It was great meeting everyone, even though the gathering was on the small side! My few pix are here: http://techno-fandom.org/~hobbit/cars/nepg-0707/ It was wikkid hot and windy. Thanks to everyone who added hands to holding down the pop-up canopy to make sure it didn't fly away and take Ichabod's pristine salsa-red with it! Maybe next time, a more wooded and out of the way location... . _H*
Likewise, it was great to see you all. A little hot, but I think I can fairly say that a good time was had by all (over the age of 20). We'll have to plan in some sort of kid-friendly activity for next time I took a few pictures as well, and you can see them on Flickr here. You can probably also see hundreds of pictures of my baby girl there as well, since you didn't get to meet her Thanks Hobbit for the guidance in finding the right slot on that ECU connector. I updated my signature in honor of the newly installed wire! I might use that new knowledge to help a friend (who I invited for today, but who couldn't make it) install a sneaky invisible EV button in his Prius. [edit] I updated the Flickr link so you can see my titles and captions too... because of course you'll never know what you're looking at otherwise... oh wait, yeah you will: cars.
