New CR report: Buying new versus buying used

    Are you sure? You don't sound too sure. :D

    I'm not big on buying new cars with the associated immediate depreciation, but the Prius was a different deal. First, I couldn't find many used at the time. Second, those that I did find were nearly as much as buying brand new, no matter how old or how many miles. Since the dealer was willing to negotiate (eventually ;) ) it became a no-brainer. I HATE (REALLY HATE) buying cars so odds are good that I will have it a long time.

    The Prius may be the exception to the rule, at least in today's market. How many used Prius owners get the price they paid for it new? There have been interesting prices out there for used Prius. It may be one of those funny market contradictions, selling a used Prius at almost new car price and purchasing a new Prius for a couple grand more with a new car warranty.

    A Stillen supercarger kit and some KW Coilovers can easily fix that ;)
