I must admit, I don't know how hot the Tx and Rx get. They are tucked away out of sight. The rear Tx is always on like the camera, and I think I wired the front Rx as always on. The reverse wire just signals the head unit to display the backup camera video.

    Thanks for your feedback.

I received a message from FactoryKiss and they will send me a replacement free of charge.

Tried out the alternate wired camera and it worked without a problem so although not completely confirmed it was the wireless, it was a solid hint that something was a miss.

That will be a message from the Pioneer, not the camera. Are there any head unit settings you can change?

I have tried to find an option to disable or shorten the time frame of the message but have not found anything yet. Nothing apparent in the Settings area. I think I will give Pioneer a call to see if there are any options for that but not holding my breath...

BTW, my install is done except for the replacement wireless transmitter has not yet arrived. Here are a couple pixs of the in-dash install of the AVH-3200BT using the Toyota trim piece and their gap fillers.

Ive read almost all of these pages but it appears everyone has aftermarket head units.

Can this be done with the factory head unit? Without Nav. 2012

    Thanks

Help! I am trying to install one of these cheap cameras I bought on eBay to my 2008 Gen II. It did not come equipped with a camera or a nav system. Thought I had it figured out from some sites & articles I found on the web before I ordered my camera. But, when I pulled the mfd out this afternoon to connect the camera, I found out that I had a 28-pin socket instead of a 40-pin like I had seen in all the sites & articles. I guess maybe that is b/c I don't have the nav system(?). Anyway, anyone know which pins to tap for the camera (CA+) and the reversing signal feeds when you have the non-nav, 28-pin mfd version? Please & Thanks!

Hi. Can't help you with that one. I have a gen3 Prius. Maybe there is something in the Gen2 section? Or you can post your question as a new topic.

The 2012 'Touch' should support a rearview camera. In the UK, the camera is standard on all models. I guess all you are missing in the USA is the camera? Might be worth having a look at this thread.

Sorry, thought I was in the Gen2 section. Guess I am all thumbs at this search thing.

I, too just installed the eBay Camry b/u cam. I am a little disappointed with the quality of the picture myself. I have been using a cam I bought from Best Buy about 1-1.5 yrs ago and it was awesome. Guess you get what you pay for. I DO like how it mounts to the car...makes installation easy. My biggest problem is the angle sucks. I wire my cams on constant as others have, to help with blindspots while driving. This cam/mounting angle really minimizes your view. I have another idea I'm going to try and will share if it is a success.

One tip I will share from my install...since I hate the rear wiper assembly and squirters, I will be removing them very soon. So I decided to route my RCA thru the boot for the squirter hose and just removed the hose and plugged it.

I hope to do the front view cam too. My cheap aftermarket hu has front and rear cam selections, so that will be easy. I can't judge my parking for crap in the Prius. I pull up to the curb, get out, and when I look back, I'm barely in the parking place haha

Anybody know where I can find a constant near the rear driverside light assembly area? I installed my rear view camera using the reverse wire but now I want to turn it on without being in reverse. I know people have been using the rear wiper constant but I don't want to go there since it'll involve more work, was hoping I could find one using one of the light wires in the back. Thanks in advance.

Use the light blue wire from rear wiper assembly.

Why does it matter if the image of the kid on a bicycle behind your car is reversed? Stop backing up if someone's behind you.

I installed one of these cheap cameras from ebay. 2 weeks later after the car went thru a car wash the camera stoped working. when i looked at the lens i could see water in the camera. wrote to the ebay seller and he agreed to ship me a replacement unit but still charged me for shipping...
when i replaced the camera i made sure to seal all the edges and around the lens with epoxy glue. has been working ok so far. I would recommend doing the same if you plan on using these cheap $30 cameras.

These cameras are made to get wet. I wouldn't epoxxy etc - just return it - it's defective...

The problem was that the water got inside the camera housing.
i installed a new camera and put epoxy on it. I have been using it for 3 months without a problem.

update: The cheap camera has started to play up so I have replaced it with a cheap CCD camera from ebay. Picture is a lot sharper. Might be an idea to have the camera connectors on the outside of the rear hatch so it is easy to replace the camera. On the other hand, it does get wet and mucky in there so maybe not such a good idea.

I've now put of these in cars, none have failed, and I stand by my point that they shouldn't. If people are getting failures, post the point of origin (where you bought it). I've bought from FactoryKiss (Ebay) - but if that isn't good anymore, let us know... Mine have been CCD, very clear (you can see heads or tails on a dime on the ground), and reliable...
