I seriously doubt someone like Toyota is going to update their software to make it easy for someone like me to add a display. :-P

The first hurdle is to get the hardware into production, then I can work on adding models and features, as the firmware is easily up-datable in the field. All it will require is a USB port.

That's what the TSA does when you go to the airport. :D

Congrats to your efforts and progress so far!
I gather that your device will be capable working with obd ICE cars as well, right? Should be just question of selecting proper PIDs and custom screens assembled by the ICE user? I'm fed up with ScanGauge and pretty much desillusioned with the UltraGauge co. which promised metric units version (for their otherwise cool instrument) like a year ago and still can't deliver.. Seems like typical example of globally outsourced engineering in their case..

Put my in for one for my 2006 Prius. Have been thinking of getting a SG2 but willing to hold off for yours.

Yes! Working on all the particulars to get something actually into production is no easy task!

I'll try and get everyone some more info soon. I'd hate to shoot myself in the foot, but if you think you really need a Scangauge, you can always get one and sell it later if you want a PRIUSCAN instead.

Hugely useful would be Hobbit's sweet spot meter. An analog bar graph of, for example, valve timing, and a way of setting the sweet spot to 6.1ms or any other desired level.

    Any news?

Can you make a smartphone app for this? Thanks.

I originally considered this, here are a few reasons why I decided against it:

    1. Smartphone displays are not usually sunlight-readable. The Display we are using on the PRIUSCAN is.
    2. With a phone, we still need a hardware interface that is essentially all the same components except the display which is only $25, so why not go with stand-alone? (Maybe even more if we do bluetooth to the phone!)
    3. I don't know about you, but this instrumentation is something I want to use every time I drive, so I don't want the hassle of connecting cables, launching an app, disconnecting cables, etc. each time I get in/out of the car.
    4. Battery life already sucks on my phone, I'd rather have it charging in the car, rather than always-on.
    5. Sometimes I use nav or pandora on my phone, which precludes the use it for watching the display, at least without switching back/forth often.
    6. Programming this for only one smartphone OS would exclude a lot of people, at least until more platforms are supported. This means a lot of different projects to tackle and maintain rather than just one.

Oh, and #7, A big one; I'm almost ready to get the existing design into production. If I went with a smartphone, I'd essentially be scrapping months of work!

There is an Android app called "Torque" that might do what you want. There was a thread on it in here in PC.

I prefer pEEf's approach but the Android app sounded good.
