It's much more expensive than a Corolla, and slightly more than a Camry, so not that inexpensive. The only "cars" more costly are the Supra and Crown.
Oh right...2012 saw the Prius V and C come out...and the traditional Prius had rear lights that looked different as well I think.
Ha ha, yeah, you can see my speed on my head-up display having been 0 mph anyway, and perhaps I could have got out in the middle of the freeway to take a picture. Now, explain that to CHP if they see you.
Yep. The taillights give it away. Starting in 2012, they have a more vertical element. And the fog light area gives it away if you see one from the front. Not many cars get a facelift after only two years. lol (former owner of a 2010)
Excuse me officer, but I just wanted a family pic of these cars. Aren't they cool? Saw another white gen 5 at a dealership, getting ready to be serviced. Third white I've seen here in Central FL. I really need to be ready if I ever see one of the more rare colors.
I've made it a game to ID the gens of Priuses I see. I also have a 2010, so that's the easiest for me to spot even from a distance. Then there's the gen 2, which is so unlike the next one after it and quite distinctive too, I love its cute look. I saw one last weekend in a grocery parking lot and told the guy he had a nice ride, exchanged waves. Also had a nice long convo with a gen 4 owner who lives nearby and I met him for the first time. Just walked over to his driveway while he was detailing his sports car (a Maserati) and we spent some time praising the Prius and exchanging car stories and mpg (he got 60+ mpg, beating my 50+ average).
I'll be honest. Much as the 5th gen looks great, fantastic even, I personally still like the 3rd gen looks better, and I love the goofy look of the 2nd gen. They're quirky and unique looking, and very easy to spot.
I don't agree on your opinion about the color. In bright sunshine, it absolutely sparkles. I love the white.. Opinions are what makes the world go round.
How many Gen 5s have actually sold? I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one in Wisconsin though I think I may have spotted one while in MN. Now that my Volt is totalled by bear I was thinking of getting an older Gen 4 prime but most have 100,000-200000 miles and are also old and out of the battery warranty. Worse even with miles and age they cost more than I could have bought new.
My 2012 was a gen 3 IV (version/trim line). You ARE referring to the 20, 21, 22 gen 4? Just to be sure, most of them (unless incredibly high mileage) are still under the hybrid system warranty.
If a 2020+ model is out of warranty its because it did a huge distance driving. You could always do CPO for that warranty if they happen to be that high a number of miles. But realistically, its almost worth going for the gen 5. It's my understanding that the inventory levels are increasing in the US in many places (not Cali) especially at the moment. In Canada they're still hard to come by and you need to wait on a list but we also have lower allocations of them, only have the AWD Prius HEV model available in two fixed trims, and then the three prime models, also in fixed trim offerings (no packages available). The reason we don't have non-AWD prius HEV models, and only have the XSE/Limited models, is because the federal government has a 5k tax rebate and half the provinces have an additional rebate on top of that of 1500-2500$. So once you factor in anywhere from 5 to 7.5k discount after tax, the 39k prime SE and 5k covering 13% sales tax in Ontario, and more than covering the 5% federal sales tax (and no provincial tax) in alberta... there's no reason to ever buy a prius HEV except for AWD. A FWD HEV prius would just sit on the lot collecting dust since its almost the same price as the prime after discounts. In the US though, y'all have many more options including the FWD base HEV model.
About 55,000 so far. It will be over 90,000 by the end of the year. I see one or two in LA almost everyday now. They should be a dime a dozen in 2025.
I see a lot more now and have seen every color in the wild (except yellow, obviously). In fact I was behind a red one like mine and a guardian gray right next to it just the other day. Its all the regular hybrid I see though, not my prime.
