Never rotate your tires

    You'd be wrong. Here's the reality of your scenario.

    You understeer, you back off the gas (which is your instinct) and regain control of the car, and don't hit the tree.

    You oversteer, you feverishly try to recover and cannot, and wind up rolling upon hitting the curb or hitting the tree broadside.

    I speak from experience garnered from professional driver training including track driving and road driving in a skid car. There is no circumstance where oversteer is safer or more controllable than understeer. May as well say in your experience the world is flat.

    Modern vehicles are deliberately engineered to understeer rather than oversteer because understeer is more easily corrected for by an average driver.
