Just to bump this topic, I have 4.2 on my July 2005 Prius. My dealer wasn't able to find an update to order, but they gave me 800-622-2033 to call and check. They transfered me to Customer Service and withing minutes, he was able to set up a Case # for my local dealer that would tell them how to order the 5.1 DVD for me. I am to expect a call from my dealer in the next 3 business days.

    (Have VIN handy.)

Version 5.1 has been out for almost a year. Did they give you any idea when v. 6.1 is likely to be released?

Do all 2004 Prius's with NAV come with the ETA function? If not, it sounds like the system can be updated to offer ETA... is this true?

You can sometimes find them used on Ebay for about half the price.

My dealer did get back in touch with me and can order the disc. I just need to find out if it's worth it -- ie, any updates? More streets? New features? They didn't have any release notes.

No idea if it's true or not, but it does raise an interesting question... is the software that runs it on the DVD, or is it in some type of flash memory in the unit? eitherway, i could see it being updatable, but being on the DVD would be so much better (that way you'd get the new maps with the updated functionality instead of having to get each seperately)

Why doesn't one person just buy the update and burn copies for others?

I think the software loads off the DVD into volatile (not flash) memory. The reason I think this is that every time I disconnect the 12V battery to service my stereo system, the next time the car is started I get a MFD screen with the DVD icon saying something like "loading... do not turn off the car".

Once when the nav system was acting strangely I found that cutting 12V power solved the problem by forcing that reload.

Let us know how it goes. I have a 2005 as well but don't want to order an update until I hear from someone exactly what I'll be getting.

    Thanks for taking the plunge!

    Hey guys,

My parents have an '03 Prius, and I was thinking about buying them a NAV disc update... not finding any concrete answers from forum searching, what is the highest version # I can get them for a new disc? I saw some posts about '04s not being supportsed so I assume '03 aren't either.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

    I have a 2005 and a very shiny new 2007.

Can I remove my 2007 Navigation disk, copy it, and put the copy into my 2005 (yes it has navigation)? What do you (smarter than I) folks think? Do you see any risk to this whatsoever?

No. You can, however, use the MFD to display the movie from another source (DVD player or iPod). There's some modification (or some cost) involved.

It won't work because the display of the 2006-2007 is more enhanced than the 2005. In fact, if you were to order a DVD for the 2005, you'd have to specify the year for that reason.

DVD Nav media are copy protected, so even if you do manage to copy the media, it won't work in the player.

On another thread, the DVD has been copied, but it isn't easy. It was done to see if the NAV voice could be changed and stuff like that. I don't know what version was copied.
