My salesman told me that nobody gets paid until the customer drives the car off the lot. So make sure you get everything you need before you do that as they'll all still be on their best behavior! :)

Just picked up my Prius on Friday 10/23 and it came with the 9.1 DVD :). The dealer said the car had been there about a week.

I got mine mid October and it had 8.1 in it. No worries, dealer bought me 9.1.

But definitely check before you buy the car, and do not assume you will automatically get 9.1

Was wondering if anybody got the new 9.1 without actually it being bundled with a new car (I already have the car LOL)..

You shouldn't input your actual home address anyway. If anyone steals your car, and has your keys, they can go to your house and steal all your stuff.

Forgive me if someone already asked it but I'm just getting little tired to go through all posts before going to bed. I bought mine last July so I assume I have the older version. And what's the difference between 8.1 and 9.1 version? Is there a significant improvement?

I picked mine up yesterday (the 9.1 DVD that is). I bought my car in July with the 8.1. I paid $212 for the DVD. It was on backorder for 3 weeks though.

I have Ver 8.1 doing absolutely nothing since I upgraded to 9.1 . Does anyone know if there is a market for the 8.1 disk? I just don't know what to do with it...

Does anybody know whether the Generation 5 dvd (ver.8.1) can be read by the 2010 Prius (Generation 6) system?

If this were the case, it would solve the problem of those who cannot use their Prius III navigation system in Europe.

The Gen 5 maps can definitely be read by the Gen 6 nav system - I have done that myself. The firmware is different and will not load, but the firmware stays loaded until the power is removed (fuse or battery). So you could probably swap the disk, leaving the power up, and load the alternate maps. What I don't know is if the firmware would be different between Europe and other areas, but it is definitely worth a try, anyway.

SOMEWHERE on this site is a message with a link to (I think) a Lexus site that has a document describing what's changed in 9.1.

Gary, in an earlier post, your comment (stating your frustration) was in effect, "what ... their (toyota's) programers can't get this right?". The data DVD is from Navteq. Toyota/Lexus simply buy it off the shelf, as do several other NAV/DVD endusers. Navteq is loved by some, hated by others, as well as folks in the middle ... kind of like boxers versus briefs ... or snow chains versus studs. It's an age old back & forth gripe that's been ongoing ... so welcome to the ongoing.

btw ... The search tool is your friend. Using it, you'll find dealers "in the know" have posted multiple times that there is VERY little difference between v8 & v9.

When you find it (if you're inclined to waste the time) you'll find there's VERY little difference.

Picked up my Prius Friday, and it came with 9.1. Salesman said it was updated but I didn't actually check until today.

The very last place a thief wants to show up is at your place of residence, unless of course, they want to return your car, which I doubt. I chase forgers. After contacting them, I can assure you that I am the last person on the planet a forger wants to talk to. Trust me, a car thief does not want to ever meet the owner of that car again. Can you imagine someone stealing your Prius and then showing up in your driveway so they can be caught?

Interestingly, two thieves stole a GM SUV. The owner called On Star to report his car had been stolen. They identified the owner and said, "We'll take it from here." On Star called police and told them they had a stolen car to report and knew precisely where it was located. The police reported the stolen vehicle in sight and On Star disabled the vehicle. The vehicle coasted off the road and the police nabbed the thieves. Is that a cool story or what?
