It does happen. A few years ago one of my co workers was telling the story of his uncles brand new mercedes benz fiasco. On his way home from the dealership the motor seized. He got a refund and bought a different brand.

In this particular case, the WA lemon law won't apply until at least 40 days after problem began, with the vehicle actually out of service to 30 of those days. The other ten days allow for the customer and manufacturer to negotiate a resolution.

There are several other paths to triggering this law.

    Update:

New car! I received a call from my Toyota sales representative today to inform us that a replacement vehicle had been secured and transported to the dealership. The new car had the same exact build sheet and it was ready for pickup.

I returned the rental and met with my sales guy. He genuinely seemed to be more shook up by the event than I was. He sincerely apologized and gave my wife and I a loaded gift card for a nice waterfront restaurant for any inconvenience we may have experienced.

Overall, I have to say that I'm thankful for the great service I received. The sales person and the dealership took care of us under the unique circumstances and I'm thankful Toyota did the right thing to resolve the issue.

I imagine that being patient, professional, courteous and friendly helped the situation progress the way it did. Toyota's corporate offices were likely involved, but I think that all parties handled it the best way possible under the circumstances.

As for the Prius C, I like it! Coming from a Prius Gen II, it is a nice upgrade. I like the new display screen which reflects consumption and ECO driving score. Very ingenious. The Habanero does gather some looks. LOL!

    Cheers,
    Sean

If you are in the market for a car in the PNW, I can highly recommend Rodland Toyota in Everett and my salesman Mike Hildebrand. I've purchased 3 cars from them, and in each instance the salesmanship was superb. They took great care of me and made the initial purchase painless, and the problem resolution happen in a timely fashion.

Good to hear. Hopefully the problem w/your Prius c is a rare one and you don't have something like it again in the near future.

Great to hear of the great out come, never thought that Toyota would have been so proactive in doing what seemed to be the right thing from the start.

Fantastic. May this one exceed all expectations and at least make it to triple digits on the odometer. :)

It does sound like all concerned did the right thing.

Are they going to keep you appraised as to what they find out was the problem with the original car? I think they owe you that to ease your mind that the same won't be happening with the new car.

Congrats on getting your second new car. :thumb:

Most Excellent!! That is exactly what I had hoped Toyota would do. Treating customers with outstanding service and backing up their products 100% is what has helped make Toyota the outstanding company they are. Congratulations to you.

Based on Toyota's reputation I felt confident that your little hiccup in ownership would be resolved to your complete satisfaction. Sometimes it isn't the squeaky wheel that gets greased... Congratulations!! :cheer2:

Kudos to Toyota for their efforts! You are a patient person, and waiting for results can be frustrating! I too would love to find out what the problem was. Hopefully they will let you know what they found.
    Enjoy the new new toy!
    :welcome:

Just to be sure, I would plan a 100 mile trip the day you get it!:D

Congrats that everything worked out! Sometimes these things happen. About 4 years ago my mother's new Mercedes died on her one day after she picked it up from the dealership. She has had numerous Mercedes and never once has a problem until then. I went with her to lunch and we parked the car in an underground garage. We came back an hour later and the car was completely dead. It wasn't even able to be jumpstarted and it almost wasn't able to go on a flatbed because of the height of the garage, a brand new 80k car! Of course she and I were shocked about the situation but eventually they were able to put it on a flatbed and haul it out of there. To make a long story short, my mom refused for Mercedes to just fix it, since why would you need to fix a brand new car??? She wanted a new one and after about a week they gave her a brand new one and she never had a problem with it after that. So getting a lemon does happen from time to time.

    Enjoy your new C!

It worked out really well for us. Of course, that is why I bought a Toyota! :)

I've put a few hundred miles on it already and I really like it alot over my 2nd Generation. We are really fortunate to have such technology available to us as consumers. I can't wait to see what will be available in another 5 years.

Sorry to pull this back up but did they ever find the culprit to this problem? The curious cat in me is dying to know (just for information sake)!

Glad you had the patience to wait.

and that you had faith in the dealership.

If you would have reacted any other way, it might not have turned out the same.

Congrats on all the good news!
