Thanks, hopefully I can convince my wife to let me do that in her car.

I got the home docking unit and have found just putting the antenna by a South facing window gives normal reception. Once winter is past and the plastic is off our windows, I'm thinking of just routing through the windows...they're so old and warped, the wood doesn't even touch the sill on some of them!

Right on...thanks for the reply. I was actually thinking about a floor position last night. I may end up switching it. I havn't had trouble knocking it down myself, but if other people in my car do then it would make sense to move it.

I went to Sirius's website and they have a cool area where they section out the US and tell you which direction you should try to face a home antenna, based on where you live in the country to get the best reception. Althought like anything else, I'm sure there are plenty of exceptions to their recommendation.

Yes, have seen that. Where I'm at, basically, just point it straight up.

Also, thanks to the original poster...I got an antenna, and rigged it up in my wife's car following that pattern.

Just an update - 2 days later in relatively cold weather w/ plenty of pokin' of buttons and still no sign that the adhesive strips are starting to let go.

Another thought... I'm wondering if the weight of the receiver and the angle of the mounting location tends to want to peel off and/or makes it more receptive to bumps and pushes.

I put my Pioneer XM there as well, in the same manner. The antenna is behind the FM antenna. I use the remote to make any changes.

I mounted my Sirius Audiovox PNP2 using a "gooseneck" that bolts to the drivers seat mounting bolt. It's secure, and, totally removable, with no holes or glue/residue to remove. I am using the "wired" FM modulator option (disconnects FM antenna and connects in PNP2 when it's powered up), I have a 2004 Prius.

    This is an interesting discussion.

I have that XACT XTR1 with the powerpod and a Universal Kit (Home and Car), and I'm planning to have it installed in my Prius this afternoon.

I was hoping that there was some way to have the Multi-Function Display be used to control the stations, however, from the discuss here, I'm assuming that isn't possible.

I'd hate to spend another $12.95 per month just to have it in my car as well.

Great write up. Only thing I would advise future sat radio antenna installers is trying not to break the seal on your rear window in a location that will allow water in. If you can break the seal down low on the sides, put a loop in the wire that runs below the break in the seal (rain loop). That way, any water which naturally runs down the wire won't be wicked into the prius cabin.

I was too lazy and just mounted it on my dash. I need to re-run the antenna outside but have been to paranoid about messing up a perfectly good car with only 3k miles on it.

There is a way to have your sattelite radio usable through the MFD screen, you can find some threads on it further down. I'm not sure if it is usable with your unit though. There is a company on the east coast that sells the kits that comes with the radio and a DVD showing you how to install, but it is several hundred dollars and requires you to take your dash out to do it. Also, from what people have posted, the MFD doesn't have the ability to display as many characters nor does it have as many presets as many of the sattelite recievers have (I have 30 and I am quickly finding even that isn't enough  ).

Anyhow, if you wanted to add an extra unit onto your subscription, I think it is only an extra $4 or $6 a month, I can't remember which. But that is why I liked the plug and play option, no extra $$ for car to home.

Thanks to all for the home docking advice. I couldn't wait for my gift card to get here so I went and bought it yesterday. It was a quick hook up and fortunately my wife's plant window that is by our stereo faces the right direction(s) for reception. I found a great spot for it. So far, once every hour or hour and a half, I lose reception for anywhere from 5 seconds to up to a minute. Not really worth trying an outside install for that, imho. Sound quality ROCKS and totally kicks FM sound quality sqwaa in da nuts. Now I want two remote controls so I don't have to move the one from the car to the house. Don't know if they sell them seperately though.

Hey, glad the step by step helped! I was hoping to save some people some time with it.

I thought I tried pulling the end of the antenna (plug) every way possible including trying to get it in at the side, with the back hatch in various positions and just couldn't find a way to do it. Very nice job there! I must have had brain overload from trying to plan it all out and didn't see how it was possible.

Thanks for the pics of your install too. It's good to see all the options we have with the installs. If the yellow color of the strips really bugs you, would coloring them with a permanent marker be possible? It's hard to tell the texture of the strips from the pic.

I had worried about the seal issue, but after looking at how thin the antenna wire was and seeing how things looked after running it through the back gasket, I wasn't worried. It is so thin that after it is in place the gasket just pops right back into it's groove and doesn't appear to leave any room for water to get in. I'm in Portland, and it has been raining mostly nonstop for the last two weeks and there has been no leakage issues yet. Like everything else though, I will post up if there are any problems. I suppose it wouldn't hurt though to run it under the outside of the gasket down to a side position and then take in from there. Better safe than sorry.

I have not noticed any apparent damage or suggestion of leakage. Has any one else?

In rereading this... did you mean rear window or the seal between the frame and the hatch?

Thanks for the suggestion... I'm going to take a look next time it rains!

I am guessing the writer was talking about the seal between the frame and the hatch as there would be no reason to try to take the wire through the window. I opened my hatch after his post and really took a close look and I don't see any way that water is going to get in. The antenna wire is really super thin and when you pop the seal back in its groove, it seals around the wire (at least mine does).

Agreed. I have also not observed any adverse effects of this type of install. THANKS again for the instructions as well as the inspiration!

Glad I could help! I do a LOT of driving in my Prius and I do not know how I lived without sattelite radio for so long. People told me it is like high speed internet...once you use it you can't picture living without it. They were right ;)

I know this is an old thread, but since I recently gotten my Replay and car kit, does anyone have any photos on how the antenna is installed? All of this pics in this thread are no longer accessible so I was wondering if anyone had the pics saved or a reference to them. I am trying to work on a way to install my Siruis antenna (round one with magnetic base) without too much wiring showing.

I was thinking on the ProClip mount that I saw on the site, but I somewhat feel that $30 is expensive for such a small mount. And I am not sure how well the suction cup will work.

    Thanks for any help!
