I don't use driver monitoring. I keep to an old version that I like. No point in updating when I'm content.

dcantat - I drive the Plus variant of the Prime. Yes, OP supports it very well and I have been trying out the new stop and go feature. It works well, but it is a little slow to start for stop and go that is stop lights in town. It seems like it would be well suited for freeway congestion induced stop and go.

Either one will work, but the GPS one is more future proof as it will be required to support HD Maps when they are released in the future. It also helps the project more by recording data on the roads you drive to generate maps. Comma ai has slack channel where you can ask questions and get help with your install. For the Prime, I also recommend you get the Comma Power as well to keep the device powered and avoid errors.

Still on the fence about purchasing the kit. Of the people that have it and use it are you happy with it? Also I haven't seen a video or discussion about how it performs at night? We have a lot of deer around here that like to run out in front of you does this detect large animals and if so what does it do, hopefully not swerve into oncoming traffic?

It works very well at night. The contrast of the lines is usually very visible to Open pilot. Rain and snow are a bigger problem for vision, but it is generally ill advised to use cruise control technologies in bad weather.

Get the grey panda. The white panda will not support HD maps, and you will want HD maps.

The latest code is very smooth in the Prime on straight freeways. It has gotten very nice. There are caveats. Learn them and you will have no issues. DRCC has caveats too, and we learned them easily enough.

I use it more than 99% of the time on the freeway, but I make very long freeway drives often.

Defiantly worth getting, I wouldn’t even second guess getting it. Ever since I have it installed in my car I can’t go back to normal driving

For anyone that has questions that aren't spelled out well on GitHub or comma, use their slack. I got amazing free support from a guy that basically works for referral code. And he also sells the start from 0 intercept thing premade. Slack is free, it's a chat app for organizations - for people that don't know.

Going back to a car without DRCC or comma.ai for my winter AWD driving is an unpleasant experience. I get on the freeway, engage the cruise, and now I have to fight the urge to let go of the steering wheel.

I am going to try OpenPilot. After reading all the threads, I have the following concern.

    1. If EON is not pluged in, is the car fully functional with all of the stock feature?

    2. If ECU is disconnected and EON is not pluged in, is the car still driveable? Will the check engine light be on?

    3. Will the usage of comma power totally solve the problem of "Cruise Fault: Restart the car"? How fast will it drain the battery?

    4. If comma power is not used, how often will I encounter "Cruise Fault: Restart the car" if I disconnect the ECU?

    1. Yes, but you have to set the giraffe settings back to stock configuration and have the DSU connected.

    2. The car is drivable with DSU and EON unplugged, but you won't be able to use cruise control and there will be errors on the dash.

    3. Yes, comma power solves that issue. Latest open pilot version has a feature that stops charging if the 12v battery voltage drops to avoid draining it, so you won't have to worry about that anymore.

    4. The cruise fault will occur when you start the car without comma power. The workaround is turn off car for 10 seconds, and turn back on. comma power is included with every comma ai kit order now, so you'll get one automatically.

If you have further questions or need any assistance, check the comma ai community on discord linked from their site. Very helpful community there.

Thank you for the advice. I just received my kit and ordered a pack of GoPro mount stickers and a dry erase marker.

Thanks, dude for the video. I bought a Prius Prime the other night partly due to your info and I'll be building my Comma.ai setup soon.

Hey man, I must say I am excited to see you here and your other posts. I just got a 2018 prius prime.

Regarding comma.ai and auto pilot, what exactly are you ordering? Wifi panda or high gps. I just can't wait to get and would love if you could post a pick of your shopping cart or something and i'll order the same.

Much appreciated. Please jailbreak the screen too. Do you love in Toronto by any chance.

@shimsha2005 Yes. You want the Grey High Precision GPS Panda. That will support future versions of OpenPilot (the White Panda will not).

Yeah! That's exactly what you need!

I couldn't afford the EON dev kit at the time due to spending all of my $$$$ on a downpayment on the Prime, so I ordered a used OnePlus 3t and 3D Printed a case. Total cost should be $150. I wouldn't recommend DIYing it though if you have the means by far.
