With Prius, probably 2 more trips before the end of year. Next year will be very few, I hope.
BTW, going back and forth on I-10 in 75-85 mph, my Prius can only return 47-48 mpg overall which in calculated mpg is about 44-45 mpg.
    Catch me if you can.

I'm actually getting around 50 MPG indicated (47 calculated) overall (hwy only) driving at 75 MPH most of the time, although at some points (less than 30% total) I have to be around 60-65 MPH due to constructions or slower traffic. I drive during the night and the temperatures are usually around 40-60F this time of the year but will be bellow freezing for most of the time during the winter. I also occasionally drive with 500 pounds of cargo! In addition, here in the Midwest, strong winds and rain has been frequent this fall for some reason, which is also somewhat impacting my MPG.

So, considering the circumstances above, I think the car is doing great MPG so far, but I have found speed to really be the major limiting factor for great MPG since, in the city (at 30 MPH on average), I'm still averaging 60+ MPG...

Yes, I will eventually catch you… my commute requires driving 40K every year, I have no choice. That mileage is disregarding any other trips I may do with the car aside from my regular commute…

Yes, you will pass me soon. I don't commute as long as you do. Yours seems double mine. Commuting such a long distance everyday in the dark winter snowy days must be an experience. When I was a student, I used to be in southeastern Ohio and I know what it's like driving in that kind of condition. Maybe you should move closer to your work.

We have to choose between living close to my work or close to my wife's, so I would rather do the driving.

I really love to drive. Luckily it is mostly hwy, so the rattling is less concerning and I can listen to my thousands songs or audiobooks. I really hate the rattling inside the Prius... even my first beetle seemed to be more solid inside. Other than that, it is a great car to drive, fun and reliable.

Driving in the snow with the Prius will be a challenge. Not looking forward to that.

Rattling? What rattles inside Prius? I feel Prius is most stable car I own. After driving Prius for 2 months, I feel my Lexus LS400 vibrates more than my Prius.

I'm not talking about vibration... I meant rattle noises coming from the dashboard and windows or interior door panels. There are many posts and at least 2 threads dedicated to complaining about the rattling noises. Of course, noticing them depends on the quality of roads your drive. Unfortunately, I have a few lumps and bumps on my way, so it can be really annoying at times. This is so common in the new Prius that when I start bringing the issue up to the service technician during my 5K oil change he interrupted me and said "we know about it and it has been a lot of complaints. Unfortunately there is not much we can do"

The quality of Prius interior materials is really not good in my opinion… at least for its price.

A little update on the high miles race. I am going to break 9,000 miles tomorrow. 9K miles in about 10 weeks. I drove too much.
