I swapped the Murano bowl only because I had them already and didn't want to spend the time; people on HID Planet have swapped round lenses onto the Corolla bowl after trimming pretty easily. If I ever decide to pull them apart and do quad LEDs, maybe this summer, that's what I'll do with my leftover Corolla bowls.

Ah gotcha. Do you think that the stock corolla bowl/lens will fit into the housing and shroud? Just trying to get an idea of how much room there is to play with. Not sure if I want to swap some minis and call it a day or do the LED route.

I think it would; there was plenty of room behind the stock shroud on either side. Might look a little funny with the trapezoidal lens behind the round shroud, but probably not noticeable to the passerby, and if you value function over aesthetics should work just fine.

I was just reading through this thread again and realized I never addressed this.

Before completing this retrofit, I looked at pictures of Corolla headlight assemblies online to confirm the heatsink was contained entirely inside the housing. At this year's Chicago Auto Show, I looked at the LED headlights on the Corolla, Prius, Prius c, and Nissan Leaf to confirm, again, that the heatsinks on all these models--which use Koito chips--are enclosed within the headlight assembly and not open to the atmosphere or engine bay. BMW does not use Koito assemblies, and for whatever reason their design exposes the heatsinks, but the manufacturers using Koito universally do not. I have had no issues so far with my headlights with the heatsinks completely enclosed in the housing, even on my 5,000-mile road trip this July with lots of night driving in hot weather.
