<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Walker1 @ Oct 11 2006, 10:52 AM) </div> We drove up yesterday. The weather was very nice, about 60 degrees on the bottom and perhaps 45 on top. I was very surprised how warm it was on top. Very light winds so it didn't feel too cold. No snow up there yet but they are expecting it any day now. Concerning all the comments on the COG train. I noticed only one train bellowing thick black coal smoke. The others are being converted to a "liquid" fuel. I agree much cleaner but there's something very nostalgic about a coal fired train. That having been said I sure didn't care for the smell when I hiked up the trail that crosses the track several years ago. I rode the COG back around '85 and it was a very enjoyable experience that I would highly recommend. http://www.theheartofnewengland.com/travel...og-Railway.html
Gee, I don't know why no one seems to have thought of it -- how 'bout a hybrid conversion for the train! Just think of all the juice that thing could generate running all the way down Mt. Washington. Done right (and assuming a very big battery), they could probably capture enough power to go at least half-way back up. Goofytech idea of the day: integrate a steam engine into the HSD concept. Glad you enjoyed the trip -- I'm jealous!
