  3. You have a point Bisco, how does one distinguish the HV from the EV. ? Charging of the EV while driving is easy, but charging of the HV, while driving is not as clear as Gen II.

can we assume the the hv/ev screen is accurate and the miles traveled per kwh are from plugging in only and not from regeneration?

We've never been able to determine that, unfortunately.

I agree. In fact I just experienced this today. I crossed over the continental divide in Colorado with definitely no EV left and, about 1/3 into a long 7% downhill grade, I was surprised to see things recharging fast. By the time I was near the "bottom" in Silverthorne/Frisco, I think I had maybe 3.5-4.5 of EV that had been regenerated on that descent. But of course that little bonus was at the expense of all the gas needed to climb the other side... ;)

that's what i thought. on my first fill up, i assumed 16.5 miles per 3kwh on the display, which is what i have been getting and kwh x 1.15 for total x cost per kwh. then i divided fill up gallons into hv miles. that's the best i can come up with.

I am a bit confused here. My understanding of how things work is that if you go down a long hill that is steep enough to require regeneration to hold down your speed, that is doesn't matter whether you are in HV or EV mode, or have drained the battery down to where EV mode is not allowed: the regenerated energy goes into the battery, and if the state of charge gets high enough, it will let you select EV mode again. And the main effect of hitting the HV button is to establish a charge level which will be maintained by the ICE. If you select EV, then the battery will be drained down to the programmed HV level (about 20%), and then maintained at that (HV) point with the ICE, pretty much like a non-plugin Prius. Even if you don't plug in the car, the big battery can be used store regenerated power on long downhills, where the non-plugin Prius would have filled its much smaller battery and had to resort to engine (B) braking to dissipate the energy.

i agree with Charles in that if the PiP does not work as he has outlined that would be a huge detriment
