Your point is ??? I'd guess 50% of the world's SMUG floats through PriusChat.. While most of it sits in the Main forum, there's plenty spread evenly through these more detail specific forums...

I'm just saying that i think the OP may be annoying more people, and wil get more tailgaters, and more hatred directed towards them if they post the mpg meter on the back of the car. Very few people we be interested in it, most will think the OP is trying to say their a better/ more caring person cause they use less gas.

+1 adamace1. Most drivers (including the Billy Bobs) already have a good notion that Prii get somewhere around 50 mpg ave. They still pass us like jerks and then we re-encounter them at the next light (how ironic!) There's a certain segment of American drivers who will never change, sorry to say. If gas ever gets to $8 per gallon, we will have the last chuckle.

I had this same idea today and was surprised to find this thread started just yesterday morning! I might have to look into the bluetooth/Android option.

I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said:

"My juvenile delinquent knocked up your honor student"

I have trouble imagining more hate on the road...

Pretty funny idea OP, but just make sure you invest in a bottle of touch up paint for when the <15mpg folks come over and key up your car after you leave it. :p

This idea kind of reminded me of a TV episode on Shark Tank where an investor puts a bit of money into this company: PowerDecal

i've toyed with this idea since i purchased my car. no i simply don't see the point. its a waste of electricity (tiny amount) and it does absolutely nothing but make yourself a target...

after several years of thinking i've changed my idea to a mph gauge (though not a gauge)

usually i don't talk about my ideas but i feel this one will help a lot with traffic and such. it's more a series of lights. red and green. each one flashes according to mph gain or drop. it's main helping area will be with highway traffic... that way you know the person in front of you is actually dropping in speed... or the guy that tapped his brakes only dropped 3mph according to blinks.... etc..

    back to topic

(seriously though.. if anyone wants to help me develop it)...

I went with the 50 MPG Patriot bumper sticker. Since I park in a controlled lot on Capitol Hill, I am not worried about being keyed. There is usually a helpful USCP officer stationed a few spaces away from my car.

I don't know if they still do it, but government motorcade drivers such as the security details for the president and other vips used to have lights mounted high on the rear of each car that lit up when the gas pedal was released, etc. This allowed them to drive very close to each other, preventing an attacking vehicle from cutting in. Great idea, but here in Calif. it would probably result in even more tailgating than we already have, as the bozos would come to count on that warning. :(

My HCHII had a bumper sticker (very simple - black text on white background) that said " Ridding the World of Fossile Fuels - One Gallon Every 44 Miles" this would have to be upgraded to 51 miles with my Prius :)

I prefer to keep my mouth shut. I bought the car for my own reasons and could care less about what others think. I don't need to advertise to anyone how great my mileage is. If they show interest, I will gladly show them what my car can do. You're not educating them about the Prius by sticking it in their faces. People just get defensive. I know I would.

Why not flaunt it? I see industrial hybrid trucks with big nice person HYBRID painted on the side. I see So Cal Edison owned Escape Hybrid with huge Hybrid Electric Vehicle decal on the rear bumper. You can always turn electronic display off when you get close to your destination. I mean who's gonna get out of their car, come up to your car and scratch and dent and key your car while at a stop light? Who's going to follow you to a parking lot and wait til you get inside a store just to key your car because you have a display that shows your MPG? If they do, they got too much time on their hands. They'll probably do it even without having any display just because you drive a hybrid.
