But if the visor is moved too far forward, it won't go on (at least on the 2005 passenger's side).

Well, I don't know what to say except we must be talking about different things. There is simply no question that what I wrote originally is correct. Something does NOT need to be displayed on the 5-minute graph. And I'm talking about a situation where ZERO gasoline is burned - not a little bit. It has happened to me many times, and it it has happened to everybody else I've heard from in the same situation. My experience is with a 2006. While "gliding" (driving with no ICE) for five minutes, the instantaneous bar will show 99mpg. The 5-minute interval bar will be blank. There will just be a gap where that bar should have been. I've done it 20 times. I have NEVER seen a 99mpg 5-minute bar in my car, and I have driven for five minutes with infinite gas mileage many times.

what darell describes started on the 06s- on the 04s (afaik) and the 05s, you get a 99 mpg bar.

Well, yea, but since only 1 of those tablespoons of gasoline will make it to vehicle motion (prius actkinson engine efficiency), and about 2/3 s of the battery energy will make it to moving the car you might rephase this as:

The Prius HV Battery pack has usable energy of 600 Watt Hours, which will push the car about the same amount as 10.7 tablespoons gasoline will push the Prius, or 17.7 teaspoons of gas will push a traditional Otto cycle engine car.

I have a 2006, and I've seen a blank gap a couple of times in stop-and-go traffic. I also once got three 99 MPG bars in a row going on a LONG stretch downhill.

the 2006 works the same as the 2004. if your average mileage is above 99 mpg and that does include infinity, it will register 99 mpg. a blank bar only happens if you have not moved during that 5 mins. darelldd considering where you live, its just part of your daily commute and you simply havent noticed it.

I can state, with reckless impunity, that my '06 does not display a bar when I COAST 3-miles in neutral, and I do this regularly on my commute. I'm moving around 20-30 mph and, to keep from killing my right foot, I occasionally slip it into neutral instead of GLIDING. Result: No green, 5-minute mileage bar displays for these COASTED miles.

As stated in my previous post, I don't know how (or whether) the computer handles adding the mileage into the computed overall MPG stats.

I get 3 99.9 bars every work-day as I go from 3000' elevation to sea level. I also get a five minute blank spot when I wait in line at Starbucks on Fridays. They both happen!

if you are in neutral, you effectively disable to consumption screen so yes, you will receive a blank 5 min bar. however, if you are in drive and you coast you will see 99 mpg. as far as accumulated tank mileage, it takes the amount of gas used verses distance traveled WITHOUT respect to time so coasting down a hill in neutral will increase your mpg's

I've always wondered why they put that there.. the only way to get to it is to first open the hatch!

It would be pretty tough to crawl over the seats and get to that.. too bad they didn't put one up front somewhere where you can actually get to it?

you can't get the floor up if "anything" in pressing on it at all.... I wonder where you are supposed to put all your body weight while hanging over the back seat and trying to reach it after pulling the floor up?

    Has anyone actually tried this?

    BTW.. nice thread....
I"m surprised someone hasn't mentioned all the secret screens in the MFD...

Strange. I've gotten 5-minute bars of 99 mpg a number of times while driving on long gradual downhills. OTOH, an easy way to get a 5-minute bar of 99 is (after warm up) to immediately after a the previous bar has been displayed to start down an incline and coast or glide and park at the bottom for 5-minutes without turning off the car. Of course, don't have air conditioner, lights, etc. on. Of course, the result is "bogus but true".

I.e., it tells nothing about meaningful about the efficiency, but does tell you the number of miles driven (fraction of) per gallon (fraction of) of gasoline used. This is on an '05 BTW.

That must be to jack one of the tires up and turn it with the tire tool to simulate coasting until the traction battery gets enough charge.
I'll have to tell my wife about that one!

There are several ways to get in "kinda funny!"....

There are three procedures I know of for looking at the Multi-Display.:

    1. hit the display button and let go, "either in acc. or ready mode" and touch the bar in the upper left "just below the top bar and then the lower left "just above the lower bar". Do this in succession 3 times and walla!.. there it is!

    2. There is also the procedure Dave described as follows:
Power up (if not already up),Push display and hold, turn headlights on and off completely, three times.

A display screen will then come up, hit display (on the screen), hit menu, You can also drive with the screen in this mode, you will not have access to the other info. In order to get rid of this display you have to power down.

    3. press the upper left and right portions of the screen to get into "diagnosis check I"

and when you go into the main "diagnosis menu" press the upper left followed by the lower right corners of the screen to get into the "product diagnosis" screen where you can calibrate the touchscreen among other things

*Note, If needed, this also works in Accessory mode too.

To exit from all these menus, press and hold the "Display" switch on your MFD for about 5 seconds and the display will reboot or simply power off the car.

actually you hold "info" down and you can also get out of that screen by holding "display" down for 3 sec

check out Attila's website. this place is chocked full of info. if you really want to know your Prius, this site is invaluable

I decided to throw in some goodies I've collected too... I haven't seem some of this stuff out here for a while..
    enjoy!

I could have added much more, but they are either too big, or not really applicable for this thread.
