Not sure if this issue has been posted before, but I just noticed this yesterday:

Absentmindedly I left my smartkey in the cup holder, powered the car off with headlights on, opened the driver's side door to get out and closed the door. The headlights stayed on. (Normally they go off as soon as you open the driver door.)

Luckily I was in the garage and was able to notice that the headlights were still on, so I opened the door, grabbed the fob and took it out, closed the door and the lights went off.

Is this the expected/correct behaviour of the SKS?

Yes. For some reason the Toyota engineers thought this was better than a loud voice coming from the car "HEY A$$#0<3, YOU LEFT YOUR KEYS IN THE CAR !!!!"

Personally, I appreciated that when I did it.

That's interesting, because whenever I power off with the headlights on, they always turn off as soon as I open my door. That means that the location of the fob is irrelevant. An '08 difference maybe?

Anyhoo, I find that convenient when it's rainy - like the lights in my former Volvo.

I dont know if this was mentioned or not, i wasnt going to read all 63 pages. When in cruise control if you go below 24 mph and then go back above it, you have to set your speed again for it disengages the set speed. All my other cars, as long as you dont shut the car off "Remember" the last set speed.

I believe all Toyotas don't remember the set speed below a certain value; I remember seeing the numbers 25 and 40 somewhere...

The Car can be slowed to a stop using the brake pedal without having your rear brake lights come on.

When Driving an 08 (at night) you can see the red brake light when you press the brakes hard enough. However if you gently press the brakes you can slow the car from over 60 to a stop and never have the brake lights come on

I think it is because the engine is what is slowing the car down, but I don't really know. Just thought it was cool

It sounds as if your brake light switch is out of adjustment. It's true that the Prius will use the electric motors and/or mechanical brakes to slow and stop, but the brake lights should be on any time you are using the brakes. It may seem cool now, though probably not so much after you get rear-ended because your brake lights weren't on. :(

Just counted mine, all wheels have 5 spokes. When parked the upper 2 spokes on the right hand wheels are hard to see but they're there.

Reading this thead I learned a lot about the Prius. I am sure one of you will be able to tell me if there is a way to seek the radio channels from the steering wheel?

Not that I know of. Only changing channels that have been stored.

You can use the tune knob which is quite handy if you wish, instead of the SEEK button.

Not sure if the Prius radio operates the same as my Camry's JBL system does, but with mine, if I HOLD the steering wheel's station selector UP/DOWN switches, the radio will search for the next station.

Again, this is for a TCH, so YPMV (Your Prius May Vary).

Holding the steering wheel's station selector UP/DOWN switches works. Now how about turning the "beep" sound off?

D'oh! I forgot about that!! Thanks!

Hmm, one of the menus have it. Perhaps the INFO menu has the BEEP OFF button?

I believe one can do this by pressing and holding the "^" or "down" button [sorry, no such symbol on my keyboard] until it beeps.

Try leaving the car in "Ready"mode then reach in through the open window and power down and remove the fob. Don't open the door! Then hit the lock and the window up button. The car assumes you are still sitting in it.

I think they might have been planning for possible carjackers.... you hop out and let them have the car (Best advice in any case!!) then when they shut the car off...... it cannot be restarted!

    BEAR68,
The windows will work for about 30 seconds after the power is shut down. Then they stop working.

Right. That's the normal sequence for most Toyotas. Certain systems remain powered for thirty seconds or until a door is opened, whichever comes first.

The poster seemed to have been trying to find a way to lock the smartkey inside the car and leave it. Such as if you were dropping a car off for someone else who had a key but needed both keys avaiable. The procedure I outlined would allow that to be done.

It took me some days to notice -- there is no ashtray anymore!
I should have been alarmed by the fact that the power socket is now covered with a plastic lid instead of being plugged with a cigarette lighter.

Nevertheless, since I am not smoking I feel this is a bold move. Actually, this is the first car I own that is not equipped for smokers! Some more points for a "greener" and healthier life style with a Prius :D
