Most Obscure Gen III Facts (way out there)

Not really obscure, but very useful. On the UK T-spirit with NAV the HUD shows turn arrows and roundabout juctions as you approach, meaning you don't have to take your eyes off the road to look at the NAV screen at crucial moments. This feature is selectable with a button below the HUD button on the dash so can be turned off if preferred.

 

fell over this by accident. If you have the nav system go into setup-maintenance and you can program your coil,battery filter,etc changes by mile or date. I think that's pretty cool !!!

 

Agreed, it is a nice feature that I've been using since owning my 2010 for just over a year now.

My dealer likes to place those oil change reminder stickers up on the corner of my windshield. I always remove them using the maintenance database of the nav instead.

You can even put personal reminders into the calendar. Not as handy as my iPhone, but it does display the reminder on screen when you start up and an event is due.

Thats an interesting feature.
I did not find any reference to it in the North American manual.
When I tried to test it with an open window my inside lock lever still worked.

 

The US model doesn't have it. One touch activates the child safety lock where it doesn't unlock electronically from the inside. You can manually unlock the driver door to reactive the electronic unlock. Still have no idea what the second lock does besides to reassure you that you locked your vehicle.

 

...and the A/C cooling capacity! But that's not really an issue, as it eventually catches up and gets plenty cool. I really only notice the difference on extremely hot days.

 

For US models touching the handle to lock the doors twice will not turn off the headlight. Using the fob to lock the door twice will turn off the headlight.
Also what does it mean by dead lock?

Try this on your Smart. While the door is open, lock the door using the switch. Now put the key in the ignition and close the door. Will it unlock like a Toyota?

 

I started another thread about this but I thought this should qualify as an obscure fact about the GenIII Prius:

You'd turn off bluetooth too if you turn off the lcd display. I actually verified it.

I found this in page 175 of the nav system manual : "An antenna for the Bluetooth connection is built in to the display..."

 

It means the the car cannot be unlocked from inside (or outside without the key) so if someone breaks a window and tries to open the car they can't.

 

I know what dead lock means. I meant to ask what does it do mechanically. How does it prevent mechanically unlocking?

 

Another obscure observation, when you reverse, the animation on the energy display shows the wheels going in reverse. I know it might seem obvious, but to program the display to do this is so cool.
I know, I know...little things please little minds, well it impressed the wife anyway.

 

climate control: press the auto touch button. It turns on. Press it again, you can't turn it off. Only way is from the steering control. Press the auto ac on the steering control it turns the fan completely off. Only way to turn the fan on (no AC) is from the climate control display. I'm all thumbs trying to adjust fan, AC. Turning up or down the temp of my ac from the steering control also (sometimes) turns the fan speed up and down (only when in AC)

I'm still waiting for dead lock. I gotta check out the wheels going backwards when in reverse so I can impress my wife too.

I cannot imagine this in the U.S., for safety reasons, unless there is some means for a trapped passenger to escape.

 

Have you tried hitting the MODE button? Worked for me.

 

Yea, correct on all.

Must be a 2010 thingy. Mode older models changes the radio presets.
