Auto up is a good thing. With my Camry Hybrid I had to hold the switch up after swiping my parking card at work. Now I have a free hand to turn on the frigging headlights as I enter the parking garage.

One engineer giveth, the other taketh away. :p

The Prius also has pinch protection with the auto-up. My salesman was very proud to demonstrate that feature. :p

Slide and flip. Pain in the butt that you have to slide the armrest back to flip the lid up. I keep my parking card in the cup holder so I slide, no flip.

if this works, you're a saviour!! I hate having to reach all the way to the other side (it's not much of a stretch i know but on the Gen II, pressing the Audio button again returns you to the previous screen).

Yeah but when you use the Remote A/C, everything turns on except the engine. Even the headlights will be on (if it's at night)

How on earth did they get 600 miles until an empty tank? Without topping off, I can only get in about 9.5/9.6 gallons into my tank, which the computer estimates is about 550 miles (my own calculations confirm this is more or less true). Am I missing something or did I get the short end of the stick?

They had only done one roundtrip from the dealer. The computer seems to based the DTE on about 10 gallons (leaving 1.9 gallons in the tank). So if it was a particularly high MPG first trip (60mpg or better), the computer would estimate the distance to empty as 10*60 = 600.

Don't know where else to put this....

I believe that David (AKA the blind guy) mentioned in a recent post -I believe in this thread but not sure- that there was an emergency release lever or such in the hatch area. You know, one of those glow-in-the-dark handles in case one is locked in the trunk/hatch.

Man, I looked all over. I think he said it was behind a panel in the back. Again - zip. I even had most of the hatch's inner panels off to install a backup camera weeks ago and don't recall seeing anything like that.

Did I misread that comment - or where in the heck is that thing. And being a hatch, not trunk, why is one needed?

That little courtesy light is on our Hylander Hybrid also. Nice elegant light to see things on the console if needed...

It's not really one of those glow in the dark handles because it's a hatchback, and you can climb out over the back seats. However, there is an emergency release (I guess in case the regular outside release dies or all battery power is gone). You pull off a small cover in the latch area inside, move a lever--it's on p. 73. Of course you'd have to crawl inside to get to it.

    Jim,
Thanks! AHA!!! The small cover is inside the cargo hold. The pic on 73 was difficult to interpret.
    Mystery solved...

:) Every time I fill a Prius new, the new "miles till empty" gauge shows anywhere from 600-613 miles to empty. I get 'em full as can be when they are ready to be delivered.

    Re: gas issues

Dang. A virgin Prius must be expecting 60+ mpg. After I've driven it several tanks, its expectations are lower, so it shows only about 550 miles to empty, the same as jvtucker.

My driving is not meeting my car's original expectations of me!:(

So according to the manual, the tank is 11.9 gallons. At 51 mpg, that would be 600ish miles. Has anyone actually run it dry or is everyone (like me) relying on the miles to empty and the blinking pip? It seems that that occurs consistently at about 9.5 gallons....
