Morning TV on my MFD during commute to work

To answer your question, a car computer with Slingbox works providing your wireless Internet provider gives you enough bandwidth. This allows you to control the home DVR with ease. By the way, it does have an audio only feature.

 

If you get a Sirius radio you can get the audio from most of the TV news networks, along with tons of other programming--no lockpick required!

Honestly I would go out on a limb here and say that a cell phone (talking on it) is far more distracting than a TV, but this could just be me because i can glance back and forth between the tv and the road and am not committed to watching it and it requires no real thought process. (Of course this is my .02 because when watching the news I am never "glued" to the set, the audio is good enough 95% of the time)

Being on the phone on the other hand requires attention to keep up on the conversation you have to process what the person is saying on the other end and keep listening so that you can respond you cant really "look away" on a cell phone....

 

Go to the club Lexus forum, and once there, do your search. We have the Lexus SUV hybrid that has DVD's built into the head rests. The hack, to get the signal onto the MFD is almost 2 years old. Read up on it there. You won't have to read posts from all the rational folks on that board ... there doesn't seem to be any

Just tell folks you only use it when you're not driving, that way folks won't get their panties all bunched up. And DO be safe. BTW, us Montanans just got our 'Open-Container' law passed about two years ago, speaking of being more responsible

 

I'm glad someone finally answered the question. Thank you. Too many people are not using this board responsibly. So much extraneous noise. You have to wade through mountains of unsolicited personal opinions scattered all over the place that we as responsible adults understand anyway. No wonder Toyota/Lexus has fittingly put the "I Agree" button on the nav screen :tsk::tsk::tsk:

 

I just wonder: if you get into an accident and there's a lawsuit filed, how will it sound when the opposing lawyer says, "he was watching TV while driving down the highway"?

The reason why people are giving "unsolicited personal opinions" in this thread is because most of them don't want an "unsolicited rear-ending" from somebody who just saw a really funny commercial.

 

Has anyone hooked up a Nintendo Wii to the Prius' MFD? I'd think the motion sensitive control would be entertaining while driving.

Seriously though, I'd modify the MFD to watch TV just because it would be cool to know I can do it... I wouldn't watch it while driving. The morning news can be listened to with the occasional glance at the stop lights.

The MFD is pretty small anyway; why not just mount a flat screen TV on the dash just behind the steering wheel?

 

Wow... I don't know why so many are so against this.

There are a million different things someone can do behind the wheel besides driving.

People simply need to use common sense and drive within their ability level. If that means listening to Fox with an occasional glance, then that's fine.

There are plenty of drivers that just shouldn't be driving even if they focus 100%

 

I remember having difficult times trying to watch TV in my parent's touring van. The reception would keep flaking, if the car was moving. They had one of those "V"-shaped limo antennas. Not sure if there's been any advancement in receiving broadcast TV, but I don't think it's worth the hassle.

This is what I would do. A DVD player with TV tuner that would mount under the radio in place of the compartment behind the smoked cover. Accelevision Single Disc Car DVD Player with TV Tuner
Why limit your passenger to just TV when they could enjoy movies also.
