More Trunk Light!

    As an option, couldn't you find a way to attach suction cups to the back of the lights? Then all you have to do is stick them to the glass from the inside when you need the light.

    Just a thought.

    That's a very good thought - and one I'm working on even as I type this. My only concern there is that I'd like the lights to be in a more permanent-type mounting. The suction cups will NOT stick to the black plastic inside the hatchback. I did glue a large suction cup to the back of one of the DOT-it lights last night, and when the silicone had dried I did, indeed, stick it on the hatchback glass. It stuck just fine, but is not something I'd select as a permanent placing.
    So - am still experimenting. Meanwhile, I would not suggest putting Velcro on any part of the car other than hard plastic or glass surfaces. In time, the glue will surely "eat into" soft material, leaving a mark, and perhaps pulling off part of the car's interior.

    Believe orionll was refering to just using the half of the velcro with the hooks which will catch onto most fabric surfaces. We used to do this all the time at work to mount pictures and signs on the fabric partitions (didn't use the loop half of the velcro at all). The glue attaches the velcro hooks to the light but doesn't touch the fabric panel. The side panels don't seem to be actual fabric so might not hold well but the material on the hatch side of the seat backs works. After trying a few locations, decided to leave it on the side panel as shown in 3rd picture. Will let you know if there are any problems.

    Good point. Sorry, I misunderstood. However, in my own testing, I've found that even the glue that sticks the Velcro to the light itself will melt in car-heat, and my Velcro just slowly slid down and eventually off the light. OOPS. Back to the drawing board! Hmm. . . .
    Now working to see if screws are the answer. Maybe, maybe not. . .

    Keep one of these expandable lanterns strapped in the back against a side wall. Doubles nicely as a flashlight. :lol:

    OK - I've followed directions (thanks!) for sticking the DOT-it lights on the carpeted side walls of the trunk.

    First, I stripped the adhesive layer off the light backs. (tough job!)
    Then, I put on two small "hook" sections of black Velcro. (see pic)
    Then, I just adhered them to either side of the back hatchback opening, so they shine towards the back seat. (see pic)

    Haven't "aimed" them yet, as it's not dark enough in the garage. Will work on that tonight. I like the side mounting, but I need the light to shine down on the cargo floor more than side-to-side.
    Will post more pics if I change things - again.
